Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Cayman Gang I need your help. All suggestions are welcome. I still have time to add to my order and would love to know what options you feel are important or just fun to have. Please tell me what you think and why. Needless to say I don't need heated seats in Hawaii. I really do appreciate it! Aloha Russ

POST 2Original post

Hmm, I am pretty sure we have done this one before. Have a look through the old messages. Oh, and I suggest you get xenon (safety), sports steering wheels (better shaped), and sports seats (I love it!). Everything else is optional. /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/tounge_smile.gif

POST 3Original post

Consider...ALL THE PERFORMANCE options! PASM, PCCB, sport shifter, exhaust etc.

POST 4Original post

Hi Way, Take a look at how many of us are posting and how many are reading without posting, I am just trying to get some more people to share their thoughts and excitement. I never could find the thread where everyone shared there options, unless you mean the UK one. Anyway I would like to know WHY peoplepicked the options they chose. For instance I am stuck on whether or not to take the Bi Xenon headlamps! My BMW has them and all they do is piss people off, so do I want them on my Cayman? How about full leather, the standard is pretty loaded, why go full? Thanks for sharing, Russ quote] Hmm, I am pretty sure we have done this one before. Have a look through the old messages. POST 5Original post

Hi Russ, you are probably right. That has been discussed in various threads but maybe not on one specific one. There was also another thread talking about xenons which had some interesting points.

POST 6Original post

Crazy, I ordered the sport wheel because it has a round center which gives a better view of the instruments, and considered a sport shifter, but I don't know what it looks like or what it offer above the standard? For $765 what do you get? Does anyone know what the standard tailpipe is if the optiojn is chrome? Thanks Russ

POST 7Original post

Russ, Any news on the Cayman car cover? What happened to the Ferret? He's gone into hiding. Patch

POST 8Original post

Hi Patch, No word on the car cover, I will ask the manager when he gets back from the Atlanta meeting. I guess Ferret must be out cutting a deal somewhere. I know exactly where he is coming from, and I do admire his agressiveness. In fact he even said he loves the art of the deal. I just have never been that way, I wish I was but it just ain't me. Aloha Russ

POST 9Original post

To each his own!!! The only guy more excited about getting his Cayman than me is you. I really appreciate your enthusiasm in the anticipation of your Cayman. Are you going to try and make the LA Auto show in January? Porsche is going to have one hell of a display and will invite select customers to show up early on the opening day to preview and discuss w/ the factory guys. Patch

POST 10Original post

I too would like people's opinion on full leather. Is the only difference between standard and full, the dash in leather? Would this not be recommended if the car is parked outside for about 8 hours every day in the sun?

POST 11Original post

I went for asthetics/residuals over everything else when I specced mine. I didn't spec any performance options because I'm using the car as an everyday car on UK roads. I did debate over PASM but in the end decided I couldn't justify an extra £1k on it. I got 19' wheels because it makes the car look alot better IMO. Full leather is a must on a car costing this much. POST 12Original post

For looks, I have to say it's the rear center console in exterior or aluminum color. Having had 3 Boxsters the most comments I always get is the painted console. it certainly breaks up the interior color. It 's a shame painted exterior color still isn't available. However, aluminum look is, and that's what I'm going with for my Arctic silver as their is little difference.

POST 13Original post

I have decided to go for carbon fibre for the centre console...for now. Anyone had cf on their Boxster/911 previously? I had painted centre console but never cf. Any downside of cf?

POST 16Original post

We've been debating this since K-Man set up the site. Here's the obvious. Opinions are all over the map, but it appears to depend a lot on whether you intend to put your car on the track - or pretend that it could go on the track. In that case, you'll want options like PASM, sports seats and sports shifter. If the intent iscurb appeal, then you'll want to think hard about sportwheels and special paint. If it's all about touring, then the Nav system comes into play. I considered the essentials to be sport seats, PASM, Xenon lights, and Nav. ThenI kept adding options until I ran into my (pretty high) budget limit.

POST 17Original post

I went with Xenons, Bose, Sport Seats, Sport Wheel, Sport Shifter (not avail. though), full leather (does promote the interior to a better level), Climate Control, and a few other items. Passed on PASM (good for track use and/or really poor roads, little value on the street IMO), Sport Chrono (more of a gimmick to me), 19' wheels (for max numbers yes, for max enjoyment no), PCCB (way to much $$$.....if it was $3K - $4k I would have really thought about it), PCM & Nav (way too much $$ for what you get). I'll wait to see how the car sounds first before looking at any exhaust option.....can always add it later.

POST 18Original post

I concur with Atlas_Croc (with the exception of the sports shifter - I found the standard Boxster S shift quick enough). The only other essential for me was the park assist. Never having driven it, I specced it on the off chance that the rear visibility might not be sufficientwhenparking in our crowdedstreets in the UK - it seemed cheap compared to the cost of repairing a potential scrape!

POST 19Original post

Hey Patch, how do you get the invite at the LA show? There is another thread where a few of us were talking about meeting there....

POST 20Original post

Ubermench, Well I think you pegged me. I guess I am mostly interested in the look over the performance. I drive 10 minutes to work on a smooth straight road and I only will use the vehicle once or twice a week, and then on weekends a little. I treat my car very good, never drive it in the rain or on poor roads. I keep it immaculate and love doing so. I have a little Toyota Tacoma for surfing and driving daily. I have Cobalt Met Blue with 19' Carrera Classics, Bose, Creasted wheel centers, Sport Steering Wheel, Porsche Crest in Headrest and Sand Beige standard Leather which I might consider going to full. I like the smell of leather and if I thought Full Leather would add to it I would take in heartbeat. When I was at the dealer I stuck my head in several 911's with full leather and could not really smell that great leather smell, anybody have a Porsche now that could comment on that? Thanks everyone for all the comments! You have no idea how much that helps even if we have uses for our cars. Aloha Russ

POST 21Original post

Hey Patch! I would LOVE to make it to the show in L.A., but I am so darn busy right now that it would cost me too much to leave even for the weekend. I am in contracting and Hawaii is on fire with new construction. So gotta make hay while the sun shines! Yes I am excited! It has been 25 years since my last Porsche, and I have been drooling over them ever since. This is a dream come true for me, and the best part is I told my wife what I have done and we are still married!! She took it really well, although she didn't ask HOW MUCH, ha ha!! I guess that is going to be the fun part. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have this site to spill on. Before I found this place I was reading and re-reading all the same junk and starving for new thoughts and info. That other site where I first saw you post was depressing! I just want to have fun with this whole experience and that is exactly what I am doing! Aloha Russ

POST 22Original post

I am DONE adding options! I decided to add FULL LEATHER to my opts. I figured if I am spending this much money I want the interior to be leather not the fake stuff. As someone mentioned theFaux leather and real leather do look different and often do not match with light colors such as my Sand Beige. Now I just have to wait! Russ

POST 23Original post

Russ, Your funny!!! For you guys asking about the LA Auto show. Get ahold of your sales Mgr. and have him ask the Porshe DSM about hooking up before the show starts. I believe they are going to have a reception before hand for dealers and select customers. Patch

POST 24Original post

I do not know if people passing on the Sport Chrono option have driven other German cars with similar feature, but I would highly recommend it if it is anything like the BMW's, I do not have first-hand experience with the Porsche version. I am of course talking about the throttle response adjustment feature, rather than the time-keeping feature /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/regular_smile.gif In my Bimmer it make a significant difference in the throttle response, especially at lower RPMs, so much so that I drive with it on all the time except when it is stop and go traffic. Also, I noticed that reviews that mentioned comments like Cayman needing to work harder, throttle response not being as good as of the 911, etc., the version of car they were driving did not have the Sport Chrono option. I certainly did not pass on that option /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/teeth_smile.gif

POST 25Original post

FT, I wasn't aware that the Sport Chrono was anything more than a timer! I will go look in the owners manual to see if I can find out what else it does such as throttle respnose. Thanks Russ

POST 26Original post

RussK, There are a couple of threads where Sport Chrono (SC) is discussed in detail so you might do a search on the forums as well. It adjust throttle mapping, provides a track timer, and raises the rev limiter on the engine and if you get PCM it also provides visual graphs of your lap times for comparison purposes. I have it on my 2005 Boxster S and enjoy it and am getting it on my Cayman S.
