It’s hard to believe I know, but the world won’t stop rotating on its axis just because you’ve changed the colour of your brake callipers

Well I checked with my OPC before hand and I acutally asked that if I had them recoloured to black would it impact my warranty and they said, it was fine unless one of the calippers developed a fault from painting - it was them that suggested trying to look for someone to swap with.

I remember asking about changing the colour on a set of calipers once, I was told in no uncertain terms that if I did I wouldn’t be offered another warranty unless it was ‘as left the factory’ including brake calipers colour!

Never bothered tbh, just lived with the red which I absolutely hated, if I had have done them I’d have used the company linked above and used their Porsche yellow, seen it in real life and it’s a lovely deep yellow.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Morning all,
I've just bought a 2023 911 GTS in Python Green, it's a lovely car, perfect spec, the original owner got the spec spot on, except for the colour of the brakes - I think they should be black, not red.
So before I have them take off and re-coloured, I thought I'd put the offer out on here - is there anyone with a 922 with GTS/Turbo black brakes that wishes they were red ? If so, I'd be more than happy to drive up to your local OPC, pay for the brakes to be swapped over and then be on my way.
Just thought I'd ask before I take them off and send them away.
Kind regards
Pommers

Get in touch with your local OPC and ask, if they say it’s ok…..get it I writing, if they state the above then they would probably do a full swap out which will sting a bit but you could sell the others on and recover some of your monies.

There’s a simple answer to this. Find another OPC.
And for the OP, why make life harder than it needs to be ?
Just get in contact with these guys and do what 99.9999999 % of people do with their Porsches, McLarens, Ferraris, Lamborghinis etc.

I was very much thinking the same if I don't find someone to sawp with.
Just to reiterate the word of warning, I had my calipers painted on my 981 GT4 and my local OPC refused to extend the warranty after the OE warranty expired.

As I suspected with my initial enquiry and obviously op can do what he wants but I would rather a email saying it was ok (if you can even get one) rather than argue the toss when you need to renew a warranty or you have an issue with your brakes and they try to blame a coat of paint.

Porsche can be so inconsistant from one OPC to another, my GT3 went into OPC Portsmouth with a JRC exahust on it, just the rear box and they block flagged the car as being modified - hence to say, they've not had a penny of my business since. My new OPC, is brilliant and looks after me like a proper customer, happy to advice on the best course of action.
Out of curiosity, what colour did you have them done, something naughty ?
If I went the re-colour route, I'd just go black with white logos, doubt they'd ever know, however, I'm sure i'll find someone with a dark car and black brakes that would rather have s nice splash of red.

I thought original Porsche black callipers were only available as an option on ceramics these days?
Nope, I’ve got black calipers on my GTS, factory fitted.
My 996 GT3 originally had carbons so has the yellow callipers which will need refurbed but seeing as the s
tey original carbons are long gone I'm debating what colour to do them. As it's a black car black callipers are probably favourite and I can see why the OP doesn't want red with green.

It was purely aesthetics for me, some will always think that your just cheating and trying to make them look like pccb but wouldn’t have bothered me tbh, I think yours would look fantastic done yellow!

Same on my 718 GTS 4.0 - black callipers are an option.

How did you find out it was block flagged?
Do you know if the list of modified cars is local to your OPC or shared across the Porsche network?

Interesting. Did you option black calipers? Not seen them before. Also Gentican Blue?… fine choice for a GTS… but I’m biased
Yes to both, calipers optioned “black” and Gentian….

They told me when I picked it up from them.
I upgraded my front discs and callipers to the red GTS spec. The rears were the same spec, so I had the callipers refurbished in red.
I think you’re better with refurbished rather than repainted. This way, all the seals and bleed nipple will be replaced and you’re back to as new condition and with a perfect finish.
OP if under the Porsche warranty then you're probably going to need them to be painted in the high-gloss black, otherwise a OPC could argue it's a non-spec part.
Also just for info as seems not everyone is aware:
Black = base car
Red = S/GTS/GT
Yellow = carbon ceramics
Green = E-hybrid
These are the base colours so some may prefer the 'standard' colour so people know what model they have?

As long as they are gloss you think that will be ok?
IMO, leave them as they are.
Python Green with red bits for the win. That’s how I specced my GT4. I ticked the Red belts and red 12o’clock marker options, to go with the red steels…
IMO, fun cars should be fun colours.

If looking for complete certainty then it is probably worth checking with the OPC. But it could be argued that painting a break calliper is the same as refurbing or repainting a wheel

Key word…..argued.
I am due to pick up my 2024 992 GTS which has black calipers as specially ordered by the first owner, I prefer red which I feel go better with an all black car. Please call me if you are interested in a swap - obviously as long as there are no spec differences

Hurray! 2 pages of unsolicited advice, but eventually a useful response. Good luck to both of you guys in doing a swap. Win; win.
