Suggestion

Having recently swapped out all my exterior lighting for LED bulbs I’ve been very happy with the results, but having a 987.1 it was a simple matter of replacing the old with the new.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

This is a detailed sketch with dimensions of our turn signal bulb thingys. I don't know what they're called. Anyway, I have figured out how to make this thing work so we can use standard 7443 bulbs, but I have no idea what I'm doing in Blender. If someone could sketch this up and save it as an STL, I'd be forever grateful. Also, anyone else with a 3D printer would be able to use this as well, thus ridding ourselves of those infernal things. I did this because the LED's I got from Aliexpress failed after one single day . And they're the only people in the world that sells them to anyone's knowledge. I was just thinking of something, if we rotate the center hole 45º, it would give more meat on between the edge of the bracket and the bulb hole.

POST 2Original post

It sure of your application, but a quick Look at Ama**n shows many 7443 bulbs from many different manufacturers. I’ve used Auxito for my ‘08 Boxster with no problems. Also, check out Morimoto lighting’s website. They may have what you’re looking for and they seem to be a step above the knockoffs from China. A few bucks more, but you get what you pay for. I’ve not had much luck with Aliexpress , most of their stuff seems cheap in price and low in quality.

POST 3Original post

987.2 And yes, Auxito is generally decent stuff. I've used those in my other cars The 987.1 and 987.2 have very different rear turn signal bulbs. The .2's have this weird thing that makes no sense

POST 4Original post

Ugh, sorry to hear your bulbs failed so quickly. Mine continue to work. Can you contact them to see if they'll replace them for you?

POST 5Original post

Yeah, they are on the way back, no questions asked.

POST 6Original post

Might take a few days, but I can give it a try. I'm not great but have done a few things. What unit are your measurements? Inch? cm?

POST 7Original post

Also, seems like you could make that with a piece of plywood, a drill, and a coping saw, just for alternatives.

POST 8Original post

I have seen the bizarre setup on the 987.2 rear light assembly. No user friendly parts. Having recently swapped out all my exterior lighting for LED bulbs I’ve been very happy with the results, but having a 987.1 it was a simple matter of replacing the old with the new. Why Porsche seems to reinvent the wheel at every turn is dismaying. Hopefully you’ll find a solution to this.

POST 9Original post

I think I have it done for you. Looks like this in 3D space: Seem correct?

POST 10Original post

The hole in the center needs to be rotated 45 degrees. That will give more meat between edge and the center hole. It will also give more room for the screw heads.

POST 14Original post

I dunno, that may cost you! PM sent. EDIT: I grew up on so many other 3D modeling programs... and I needed to try out a new program, so this was a great way for me to do a quick test. Looks like I can still do it

POST 15Original post

Watching this with interest.. once it's sorted out - maybe the file get made public domain and there are places that print stuff for you?

POST 16Original post

I have everything printed out and ready to go, but it snowed last night. This is the first time we've had snow here in over 5 years, so I ain't doing nothing today! Soon as it warms up, I'll do the installation. But here's some sneak pics!

POST 18Original post

Nice work, I’m jealous. Love the ability to be able to design and 3D print anything the mind can conjure up.

POST 19Original post

Well, I'll have to go back to the drawing board. I need to learn to use Blender or whatever, because the adapters still need some tweaking for sure. It's too cold right now, so I just went back to my stock bulbs. I'll revisit this project in the spring. But for what it's worth, this is what they look like installed in the housings.

POST 20Original post

I’d be happy to tweak this for you. It’s part of what I do for a living, as well as my hobby, along with 3D printing. Are you wanting it to be more shaped like the OE piece, instead of the rectangle?? Let me know what you have in mind.

POST 21Original post

Looks like the inner workings of the Space Station. Leave it to Porsche to turn a simple taillight into a computer designer’s worst nightmare.

POST 22Original post

3D printers are pretty low cost (relatively) these days. I have a friend running Bambu brand printers - about $600 for a high-end one. He uses it for production of engineering parts for industrial machines (that I help build and program). He can even print with carbon fiber and the parts come out super strong and stiff. I haven't bought one, but I plan to build one soon... got the heads and such in-hand, now I just need time to devote to the project!

POST 23Original post

I'm happy to help again as well... no problem. I'm interested as well, even though my LEDs are still working (knock on wood!)
