I've had a few Reanultsports in the past 5 years so will be a big leap up (hopefully) I started off with the Clio Cup 172, then got the 197 R27 F1 and currently run a Megane 225 F1 mapped to 260bhp, all track based cars really, great little fun cars to drive all of them, Cup 172 was the best as it had no traction or ABS and no sound deadening and lightweight glass, it was a real b-road warrior, although the Megane has much more power.

I can't wait to get looking serious to buy, it should be just after we get christmas out the way, I've been told that Sterlings are superb for selling used Porsche also if anyone has any dealings with them they would like to share that would be great.

I only ever use Superunleaded to and I find the turbo cars of any flavour respond very well to remapping if they use super unleaded.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Afternoon Everybody, Thought i'd best introduce myself instead of just lurking around in the background. My names Lee and I'm soon to be in the market for a 996, was first off looking at the Carrera 4s but am now being swayed towards an earlier Turbo 996. As I am now getting toward 35 I thought it about time I get one good motor that I can keep for a long time and the 996 seems like the obvious choice. Anyhoo, going to have a good read round and hopefully find some good advice and thanks for having me. If there is any tips or tricks I should be aware of please share the knowledge and I also think of myself as a bit of an anorak with cars and am currently studying the dark art of remapping and ecu's, so if I can help out with anything or indeed answer any questions I would be more then happy to do so. Hope your all OK and this reaches you all in good spirits. Cheers Lee

POST 2Original post

Welcome Lee! When I started reading, it struck me it sounded a bit like a confessional "My name's Lee, and I like Renaults......" [ ] [ ] Seriously, there are a couple of documents here to get you started: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=269468 Even if you are a seasoned used car buyer, once you have tracked down a prospective purchase, get a professional PPI done by a specialist. I think most people here would agree that a sports exhaust is a must-have, but just go for the newest car you can afford in the colour combination you prefer. There are plenty on offer, and now is a good time to buy. If you are keeping it for a while, expect it to depreciate like any other volume produced car, but forget that and enjoy it. Nothing will put a smile on your face for as long a time as a Porsche will. But beware, it's a slippery slope....... As for mapping, there aren't huge gains to be had from remapping a naturally aspirated 996. 15-20bhp at best.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the welcome Richard. [ ] [ ] I must agree, I thought that when I typed it !!! I was hoping you would all sell the porkers and get Renault's bought !!! [ ] Thanks ever so much for the linky, will take a good look through it all today, should increase productivity at work !!! [8|] I will most certainly be insisting on the PPI, I have read about this and think it would be daft not too, I was also looking a buying direct from a Porsche dealer for peace of mind, and to ease the pain of the wife in my ear !!! As you say, sports exhaust is a real must, a couple of guys I work with have them, one on their Boxster S and the other on his 996 Turbo, they really do sound great. I can't wait to get looking serious to buy, it should be just after we get christmas out the way, I've been told that Sterlings are superb for selling used Porsche also if anyone has any dealings with them they would like to share that would be great. [ ] This is the link to the site, http://www.stirlings.co.uk/showroom/index.html they had a lovely C4S in, thats what drew me to them but apparantly he is one of the best according to 911uk.com forum ? With regards to the remapping, your indeed correct, N/A motors don't repond to well, more for just ironing out nay hesitations or bring modifications together really. I only got the remapping bug when I remapped the Megane with the help of a specialist tuner in the Netherlands, if I do end up with a Turbo then i think I will be remapping it at some point. I only ever use Superunleaded to and I find the turbo cars of any flavour respond very well to remapping if they use super unleaded. Again, thanks for the welcome and i'll shut up now !!! [ ] Cheers Lee
