Any idea why after religiously using the trickle charger this would happen ?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car gets driven perhaps once every few weeks. Between drives it gets left connected to a Ctek trickle charger. The lights on the Ctek are always all on by the time it comes to disconnect it and go for an enjoyable hour long blast. I decided to leave it connected all the time after leaving it just parked for a week normally, resulting in it needing a jump start. All had been going fine until several months later.... This week, I went to start the car as per usual, but the car just did a half of a turnover followed by loads of clicking. The Ctek was showing all the lights illuminated as per normal prior to me disconnecting it. Any idea why after religiously using the trickle charger this would happen ? I have now put a new battery in the car. Should I put the trickle charger back on all the time as per above with this new battery, or not agood idea for this new battery with a 5 year guarantee ?? Thanks for any good advice on how best to keep this new battery in good shape.

...I've had the same issue with a Ctek and my merc sl thus now with the one connected to my 996 I turn it off and on every week or so...seems to solve the issue... ...it helps having the battery in the front though as several times I drove the Merc out of the garage ripping the socket off the wall because I forgot to disconnect the ctek

POST 3Original post

My wife did that to one of our cars, to be fair I hadn't told her it was plugged in and thankfully the cord broke at the plug socket so it was easy enough to re-wire the plug.
