Due to an incorrectly fitted battery frying some systems I had to have a new instrument binnacle fitted, on a recent run the need fuel light came on this I believe indicates the car has switched from a manually operating guage to an ECU calculating system and a reasonable amount of fuel is left, the issue is I was out of juice within a mile of the initial warning.

I will also add, after I had put mine back together I ran out of fuel a couple of times but after half a dozen fill ups it seems to go down to zero with some left it reserve so it maybe self calibrates over time?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Chaps, Due to an incorrectly fitted battery frying some systems I had to have a new instrument binnacle fitted, on a recent run the need fuel light came on this I believe indicates the car has switched from a manually operating guage to an ECU calculating system and a reasonable amount of fuel is left, the issue is I was out of juice within a mile of the initial warning. Any ideas, could the instrument cluster need some calibrating? Or does the sender unit need looking at?

POST 2Original post

Is it the correct cluster for a 2wd or 4wd car? MC

POST 3Original post

When I was having issues with my fuel pump and various other things I found out you can calibrate the C4 system but I don't think there was a way to do it on a C2?

POST 4Original post

I will also add, after I had put mine back together I ran out of fuel a couple of times but after half a dozen fill ups it seems to go down to zero with some left it reserve so it maybe self calibrates over time?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the response, the cluster was fitted by a Porsche indie so I have assumed they fitted a correct C2 cluster, I am keeping a minimum half a tank in her so not a big issue I will have it investigated next service, but hopefully it may have been a one off and has been sorted by a big top up.

POST 6Original post

The only way to find out is to run it to zero range and not run out of fuel and see if it has self calibrated. I carried a can of fuel around with me after the first time I ran out until I was confident it had fuel still after after it got to zero
