Hey guys, i have a very weird issue, i recently got my
987.1
cayman
and it has an alert for R side marker. i replaced the bulb from the left side to the right to test if the bulb was bad, but the bulb from the right side illuminated on the left. i also put a volt meter to the terminals of the side marker and it is reading 14.4V when the car is started, the left side was reading 12.96V. I am quite lost, what should i try
next
?
Are the bulbs LEDs? The ECU can complain if they don't draw enough current, which happens with some LEDs... they need a resistor in parallel with the light to generate enough load to stop the error.
I think on my
987.2
there was also an option for setting LEDs in the ECU. If there's a mismatch between the setting and the type of light, that may cause an error as well? I don't know if
987.1
has such an option or not, but you'll need a
Porsche
-capable scanner to find out.
How long have you had the car? Has it always thrown the code, or is this new after some time, etc?
They are the amber bulbs, not LED ones, i read a couple other posts about side markers and did think about current draw but if the same bulb worked on the left side but not on the right?
i got the car a couple weeks ago, i just installed a new front bumper harness as my car did not have this, maybe the harness is the issue? i verified that i have all the grounds.
Certainly could be. As they say, always check the last thing you changed.
Did the original bumper harness work properly? Or is that why you replaced it?
When did this problem start? Is it possible it began about when you had that headlight assembly removed for some reason?
The reason I ask - I had a driving bulb that didn't light. I tried everything to track down the issue. Finally, after months of searching forums to no avail, I pulled out the headlight assembly, and started trying to track down the wiring for the circuit.
When I looked at the connector on the headlight assembly, I spotted that one of the male terminals on the headlight side had folded itself over quite neatly probably due to some misalignment when reinstalling the assembly. After some very careful fiddling (bending) the terminal got it lined up enough that the connection was made and the light functioned properly.
i am in the process of rebuilding the car it had a front end collision so when i bought it it did not have the front bumper harness, which is why i got a "new" to me one from ebay.
i did have the headlights out, the previous owner upgraded to aftermarket
spyder
headlights. i did have to rewire some connections for the
spyder
headlight to work, i wonder if rewiring the headlight could've caused the side marker to not work? I cant register my car if my side marker isnt working so i'm definitely brainstorming hard here
If "side marker" means the turn signal, then I should add that an easy upgrade is to get the clear marker lenses with amber lights. Depending on your car color, this might be a nice upgrade. Since I have the (clashing) speed yellow, I did this a while back.
