I upgraded mine but only because I was planning to put in a racing baffle (didn't fit) so I also replaced the whole oil pan because it was cheaper than paying for the labor to clean the old one and put it back on.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone, New joiner here, having just picked up a beautiful Guards Red 996 C4s on 50k. I'm looking to do a full refresh on the car and replace common wear items to get it up to 100%. Research tells me to focus on the IMS, clutch, water pump, brakes, tires, suspension which should hopefully cover everything for a few years of summer use. Before I hit order on FCP Euro, can someone please help me check my parts list and let me know if anything is duplicated, missing or should be swapped out? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

So your second post has a hot link that doesn’t send us directly to a Russian hooker website? Right?

POST 3Original post

I have a 99 with 66K miles and I haven't done half of the items in your list. That is one HUGE list of parts and projects. Personally, I would just drive the car for a while, change the oil and filter, and then evaluate the rest. There is a date code on your water pump pulley, you can always look at that and see when it was last changed. Did you go to this website and check your VIN? https://imsretrofit.com/ims-check/ You probably want to consider the UAOS vs. the stock AOS. No way would I buy all of those items at once unless the car has been sitting in a desert for 15 years with the windows open. You'll probably find most of those items do not require replacement just yet. And personally, I would shop around for some of the items, you can get them at a better price if you do buy all those parts. Rockauto is your friend.

POST 4Original post

The oil separator in your cart is one of two in the sump not the AOS. And I agree with what Paul said above.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the advice. The IMS definitely hasnt been done and everything I read said change this, water pump, etc as soon as funds allow as risks are high (particularly as has done <1,000 miles in last few years) and if youre doing that then also do clutch, AOS, etc. Or is that overblown? Its still on original suspension and one of the rear shocks is seeping fluid.

POST 6Original post

Check your water pump date. You can see it if you jack up the car and get under it, I'm sure it's been replaced before. Here is my original pump that had a 52 week of 1998 date code on it. You have a 99 which has a dual row IMS bearing, so I wouldn't be concerned about it to tell you the truth. I bought a replacement IMS bearing recently (searched marketplace nationwide and bought a new in the box LN bearing with tool for $800 shipped), the only reason I am going to change it is because I have a leaking RMS that I want to fix. I also found a new in box clutch and dual mass pressure plate super cheap ($400), so I will change those also. But it's not like it needs to be changed. For your shock, I personally would just replace the shock and drive it for a while. Unless you want to spend a lot of money on parts and wrench more than you drive. Trust me, I love wrenching also! Why not drive it this summer and do this maintenance in the fall. It is very unlikely you will have any issues with the car until then.

POST 9Original post

Everything looks good. How does your coolant reservoir tank look? If it's yellowing, change it. You'll also want to make sure you have the newest cap. I would also consider- Use new bolts with the lower control arms Swap out the Meyle drop links (stabilizer bars) for TRWs if available (OE supplier) I'm not familiar with what the AOS looks like for the .2 but what you have in your cart looks different from any I have seen. You confirmed that is the right unit for your car? It's become good practice to check the viability of the AOS with a manometer before installation, suggest this to whoever is installing it. Others might be able to suggest any rubber hoses that should be replaced while the engine is lowered for the AOS fitting.

POST 10Original post

As Brad mentioned the thing you have in your cart is NOT the AOS, it is commonly called a "swirl pot " to differentiate it from the AOS...( there is 2 of them in the oil pan) .. It should have been named the "de-aerators" but the translators named it similar to the AOS.....This has confused many many people...

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 20553176

Congrats on the 996! Good to see a new owner that is willing to spend the money to refresh the car. Imho, its worth it. But alot of the refresh items will depend on the condition of the car and its parts as well as what service/maintenence items have already been done and when. A couple of quick questions. 1. Do you have service records? 2. Have you tested your oil to see whats in it? 3. Have you dropped the sump and inspected the oil filter yet to see whats in them? 4. Have you performed a borescope yet? 5. Are you a DIY guy or are you going to rely on an indy? 6. How are you going to use the car?

I use FCP as their customer service is great and lifetime warranty on every item. 100% can find better prices places.

POST 14Original post

The Engine oil separator is not the AOS as was said by others. What is shown as the engine oil separator is the upgraded swirl pot and there are two. This is a nice to have but not necessary part. I upgraded mine but only because I was planning to put in a racing baffle (didn't fit) so I also replaced the whole oil pan because it was cheaper than paying for the labor to clean the old one and put it back on.
