The reason Im replacing the switch assembly is because the radio would stay on after taking the key out of the ignition.

Given how much of a pain it is to get the switch assembly out, I was wondering if I should preemptively replace the transducer.

Suggestion

I am not an expert, but I am guessing the security transducer (assuming that is what you mean) would need to be taken out of the old assembly and put into the new one if you wanted to continue to use your old keys as-is without reprogramming.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am in the middle of replacing my steering wheel lock/ignition switch assembly and have everything taken apart. Should I replace the Signal Transducer (part number 996 618 159 01) while I have everything apart? I already have to wait to order the correct Torx screws for various things I took off since Im not the first to tear into the dash and there are several missing and mix-matched screws. The reason Im replacing the switch assembly is because the radio would stay on after taking the key out of the ignition. Im not sure what the transducer does or if Ill need to reprogram the key. If it deals with the anti-theft I have noticed that sometimes when unlocking my car with the key only the driver side door will unlock and the car will beep once. My car is a 2000 C4 Cab.

POST 2Original post

My radio stays on when I remove the key and turns off when I open the door, assumed that was normal.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My radio stayed on even after opening the door. I only noticed because I was in my garage one evening and heard music which turned out to be my radio in the car. The key had been out of it for two days.

POST 4Original post

Well, you know your battery is pretty strong if the radio played for two days! I am not an expert, but I am guessing the security transducer (assuming that is what you mean) would need to be taken out of the old assembly and put into the new one if you wanted to continue to use your old keys as-is without reprogramming.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, what Im talking about will need to be transferred to the new steering lock/ignition switch assembly. Given how much of a pain it is to get the switch assembly out, I was wondering if I should preemptively replace the transducer.
