Suggestion

Downside is that it doesnt fold, but it hasnt been a problem and I cant really think of a circumstance in my use when I would need to remove it after I have left home.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I've got my 996 Cab arriving on Thursday but it comes without a wind deflector. How effective are they? Is it still pretty comfortable at speed (say, up to 80mph) without one? In short, is it worth shelling out 250+ to get one? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Any temps below 50F YES. With the side windows up. The rear do not operate when the top is down. The wind deflector allows you to drive in comfort even as low as 40F. You maybe able to get one from Ebay for less than $250 But these are NOT genuine Porsche deflectors. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wind-Deflect...272a8f&vxp=mtr One here in GB http://www.ebay.com/itm/WINDBLOCKER-...item2a4d1ffbff I leave mine in position most of the time (top up or down). It CAN be removed, folded and placed in the frunk if need be. Some I see on ebay, at half the price, do not fold in half.

Yes you absolutely need one Get a used one on eBay

POST 4Original post

Get one, it civilized the open top driving in a manner you could not appreciate unless you have one. And your female passengers will appreciate it also for not messing up their expensive hair-do, and allows sensible voice level during conversations. The genuine Porsche ones also folds up nicely for stowage.

POST 5Original post

I use mine any time the top is down; highway speeds are no problem with it installed. You also don't have to worry about things flying around the cabin.

POST 6Original post

I use mine too and I recommend it, as others do. The only negative to the wind screen is that it blocks the front seats from being moved all the way back. I'm 6'4", so I prefer to move the seat all the way back. I'm willing to move it up just a little bit to use the wind screen.

POST 7Original post

Yes, the ladies love it. Be careful with putting back the seats when it is in though. Its easy to move the seats right into/through the screen. It folds down very easily (just push on it) to help with visibilty, especially when the top is up and the screen is in.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks!!! Looking on ebay now I think...

POST 9Original post

Got one over the winter. Used it for the first time yesterday. I can't believe what a difference it makes. Best addition I have done.

POST 10Original post

Absolutely love mine and use it all the time.

With the top down, stick a pencil (or your finger :-) )into the spot where top latches. There's a switch in there that prevents the rear windows from operating when the top is down. Push up on the switch and you can raise the rear windows. With all the windows up and the wind deflector, it's pretty comfortable even in coolish weather.

POST 12Original post

I use mine but I never flip the part up, seems to do something although I'm too lazy to put the seats back up. I do think it looks silly flipped up, and that convertables look silly with the windows up and town down, but that could be just me. My hair blows around with it up or flat, or out, but then I'm not really concerned about looking pretty anymore and am just happy I have long hair to blow around still.

POST 13Original post

Even with the wind deflector installed, but in the "down" position, it has a dramatic effect on reducing the buffeting wind that normally likes to come up from behind the driver and passenger seats. I like mine, but installing it and removing it is kind of a hassle. If you never use your rear seats, you don't need to remove it though. I'd recommend picking up a used OEM deflector on ebay.

POST 14Original post

I use mine all the time. My Wife definitely notices when it isn't there. If it is cold enough to put the windows up just put the top up. In my opinion any convertible looks ridiculous with the top down and the windows up.

POST 15Original post

Be careful when you install it the first time. May want to have assistant. Its really easy to scratch the leather around the mounting holes until you get the hang of it. I've been thinking of "improving" the mounts with a rubber coating or plastidip or something so they wont harm the interior.

Seems a lot of work and logistics nightmare, even if asking a girlfriend, or worse yet guy friend: "(Honey), Can you put your finger in this hole, and this other hole?!" I bought a SmartTop instead, it allows me to one-touch open/close the top and raise/lower all windows regardless if the top is up or down. http://www.motivemods.com/Mods4Cars-...4c-staxpe2.htm

POST 17Original post

Thanks for this! Even eleven years later, 6'4" drivers are still buying 996s.

POST 18Original post

For taller drivers like myself (63) I found this design to be a good solution, the design allows for full seat travel. Downside is that it doesnt fold, but it hasnt been a problem and I cant really think of a circumstance in my use when I would need to remove it after I have left home. I had to order it from a different seller on eBay because the seller below wouldnt ship to US due to tariffs. https://www.cabriosupply.com/porsche...GzTn_cTCkvyXWV

POST 19Original post

After 6 months of ownership, mine has not come out of the trunk. Probably time to put it in the garage.

POST 20Original post

I found it to be night and day different. Wouldn't think of removing it

POST 21Original post

I purchased a used one off ebay when I got my cab. I mistakenly left it off only once. I didn't even make it out of my neighborhood before I realized what happened and went back home to get it. They make a huge difference. Huge.

POST 22Original post

I have both the actual Porsche wind deflector that will fold in half to fit in the trunk and an off brand one that doesnt. Frankly the Porsche one seems kinda hinky and wobbly and it sits in my garage unused. The other one is much more rigid and I use pretty much any time I dont have the hard top installed. The one time I have had to carry some luggage that wouldnt fit with it installed I just stuck it behind the seats.

POST 23Original post

Do the original Porsche ones rattle at all when installed? My third-party one does. If anyone has an original Porsche one in good shape they would like to sell, please direct message me. I am interested in buying one. Thanks.
