Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've purchased ate 200 anyway as I will be flushing it all when I've replaced some corroded pipes and fitted SS flexies.
Leading evidence: 'Install ss flexies' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check boiling point of the fluids you are interested in' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The most important thing, and most likely to make a difference IMHO, is to keep it fresh - changed every two years and never topped up from an open container.

DOT5.1 will have a higher boiling and heat resistance - it's part of the classification, but is more hydroscopic so will need to be changed more often.

I have always used SRF for my track day lotus exige 240 cup and will be using it on my 997 eventually, and yes it is expensive but so is millers 10-50!!!!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
I'm looking to change my brake fluid in my 996 turbo and change to braided
lines.
I'm look for better feel and confidence.
I'm not going to track the car, therefore Castrol SRF is too expensive and over the top for my needs.
Any recommendations?
I'm just about to do mine - old fluid was blue in colour so I presume it was ate 200 which used to be blue but now isn't. I've purchased ate 200 anyway as I will be flushing it all when I've replaced some corroded pipes and fitted SS flexies. I read a few reviews on here (or Rennlist) from people who track their cars and it seems to hold up fine.
There's Porsche Classic brake fluid 00004430501 £27 from the OPC. Expensive but still less than half the cost of SRF and comes in a cool Porsche metal bottle that looks good in the garage, at least that's the main reason behind my purchase, added bonus the fluid works great.
I'm very happy for somebody to correct me, but I've come to the conclusion that DOT4 is DOT4 and it really doesn't matter what make. I used to change it to DOT5.1 in every car I had, then someone persuaded me that if Porsche (and most other manufacturers) spec DOT4 it must be good enough.
The most important thing, and most likely to make a difference IMHO, is to keep it fresh - changed every two years and never topped up from an open container. I popped out to the local motor factors the other day and picked up 1.5 litres for under £10! At that price it's almost worth changing it every time you change the oil.

DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 can be used - avoid DOT 5. Check the boiling point of the fluids you are interested in - that is more important than brand x or y. DOT5.1 will have a higher boiling and heat resistance - it's part of the classification, but is more hydroscopic so will need to be changed more often. Porsche uses DOT 4 so you can change it once every two years and it's fine. If you want / need better braking performance over a longer period of hard driving go with DOT 5.1 and bleed the brakes yourself every year. More frequent brake bleeding will also reduce air bubbles getting into the system and also stop your bleed valves getting corroded and stuck in their threads. You will also need to bleed your clutch slave cylinder and ABS module (via the PIWIS).
Just to the last two items above, download the Porsche service manual, it has it all detailed there. The manual also states to be careful with an older master brake cylinder and to only depress the brake pedal halfway when bleeding.
