After they installed the PCM 2.1, the mechanic did have to re-sync the clock, with the center display.

My dealer had to do some sort of complete reset of the system, I'm not exactly sure what that entailed, but whatever they did got it to work and it works like a champ now, all functions purring along as they should.

As expected, the dealer is running into issues with the programming??

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

BTW, i took my car in b/c my Sport Mode button didn't work.
I just wanted to update everyone on trying to get
Sport Chrono
display to show up in
PCM
. This only applies to people who retrofit
PCM
and who already have
Sport Chrono
. In order to get the display to show up and turn on the comfort features you need 16 digits codes from
Porsche
. There are several different codes.
Sport Chrono
VES code
PCM
/CDR23 code
Sport Chrono
activation code
PCM
memory activation code
Each of these codes has to be entered at least once into various area of the
PIWIS
and the
PCM
code is actually entered 3 times.
After 2 weeks of waiting my dealer received codes for my car from
Porsche
in Germany (PAG). I went in with the step by step instructions for doing this procedure (not in
Porsche
service guides) and we attempted to implement the codes. Unfortunately despite our best efforts the last 2 codes would not take and nothing new was turned on in
PCM
.
My dealer is now filing a P-Tech report with
Porsche
and requesting new codes or some explanation of why it isn't working. I also called a dealer I know who has successfully done this to another
Cayman
and we walked through the whole process beginning to end and still the code would not work.
I'll update this thread as more news becomes available on the topic.
Ditto; thanks for the effort.
I must say I was a surprised when the dealer called me and said they got the codes after all that time. Hopefully will be heading down there during the last week of April and getting the programming sorted out. Also I can get them to fix my unsynced clocks issue.

After they installed the PCM 2.1, the mechanic did have to re-sync the clock, with the center display. But seems i have lost some functions on the center dispaly? It that normal? (ie: Fuel consumption)
no that should not be, have you tried going into the center display settings using the control stalk and making sure the fuel display is turned on? Can you not even scroll to the fuel consumption display by moving the control stalk up or down?
whoever left rep and wanted to know more about the clock issue... when I had my
PCM
put in and the dealer programmed it, supposedly they missed a setting the syncs the clock on the
PCM
and the center console. Ploc36 and Kman S pointed out to me that these clocks should be synced in the daylight savings time thread when I complained that they weren't in my car.

Mine works great now. My dealer had to do some sort of complete reset of the system, I'm not exactly sure what that entailed, but whatever they did got it to work and it works like a champ now, all functions purring along as they should.
I just plugged the
PCM
I bought into my CS with
sport chrono
and all the features worked right off the bat. Lap timing, convenience settings, DRL etc.
No problems, no fuss, no codes. The unit must have come off a car(997
911
or such) with nearly the same features as mine.
Score!

The question is where did you obtain your PCM 2.1? I ordered it through Rick @ Suncoast, thus the unit likely hasn't been programmed. I had a Porsche dealer installed it, they got the basics going, as with all the radio, CD, CD Changers, & the Nav. But likely they do not have the training for programming the Sport Chronos, (as not many P owners do retro-fit PCMs)
It will take a lot of effort in finding out the many codes from Porsche & program it back into the PCM. Thanks to K-Man S, I can go to the dealer & start the process with them.
My '06 CS has factory installed
PCM
and
Sport Chrono
Plus, yet the Individual Memory and
Sport Chrono
menus did not appear in the
PCM
. Not sure if this was the behavior from new delivery, since I am the second owner- or the previous owner did something that caused them to be un-enabled.
I brought this to the attention of my Service Advisor and he said it was a "delivery item" and that my salesperson will "teach" me how to use the
PCM
.
Sure enough, I'm teaching the salesperson about the missing functionality. Service eventually re-enabled the functions in the
PCM
and all is now working fine.
What concerns me is how and when did they get disabled?
That is really GREAT! It saves you a ton of work. As with my
PCM
, I have an appointment with my local dealer to install the various codes on Monday, Jan 7th. Will keep you posted as to the results.
As expected, the dealer is running into issues with the programming??
They will try & obtain the codes today & try their luck. K-ManS, can you tell me which dealer you used, as we might need to call them for help.
Thanks in advance.
I am out of town, but a call to Todd Hurlburt the service manager at Aristocrat Motors in Merriam, KS should uncover exactly what they did to program it.
Here we go after what 9 months??? My
PCM
is finally fully functional! My
Porsche
Dealer MCL here in Vancouver, tried 2 times previously & did not get it working, I guess 3 times lucky. Here's the report as to what they did:
"Found
PCM
coding & Initialisation coding incorrect. Tried all related VIN number entry as per
Porsche
Tech Response - did not change requested all codes to vehicle recoded every possible control unit coding including electrical system control unit for
Sport Chrono
& all codes for
PCM
System, Re-entered tehn entered individual memory code &
Sport Chrono
enable codes & coding was changed to strt function for
Sport Chrono
in
PCM
Unit 8225."
The labor cost was $450.00!!!! But now all is working.
Hope others with retro-PCMs didn't have to go through this issue.
BTW, i took my car in b/c my Sport Mode button didn't work. That's another Thread.
When I got a quote from Rick @
Suncoast
he asked if I had the
Sport Chrono
or not. That really wouldn't make any difference if all the settup for the
PCM
functionality was done after it was installed. Either there are two different PCMs where one is pre-programmed for the
Sport Chrono
or Rick is going to do something special to the
PCM
before it ships. The latter would probably be hard or impossible to do on the
PCM
standalone, so the first would seem more likely. I'll reply back to Rick and find out.

Is my car on a boat?
I think it does, as if you don't have Sports Chrono, you will not need the extra functions within the PCM, (ie: track times etc...). Then the PCM will function with your trip computer & stuff, & if you add Nav, that will also be functional.
