Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I fitted black ali mesh to my 986, cost about £10 on eBay, and a couple of hours with tin sips and a hot glue gun to locate them.

Thanks chaps, yes I did clean between the radiators and when you looked closely you could see that the cooling fins were filled up with what effectively was mud.

I had bought some mesh off ebay however it's quite obvious looking at it that it has quite a big surface area of metal and will restrict airflow, negating the benefit of cleaning the radiators.

As you have quite a valuable 3.9 installed, I'd recommend leaving original and clean out from the front regularly over the winter by sticking in a suitable rubber extension piece on a vacuum cleaner and then repeat the process you are doing at the moment every 2 years.

I then made some custom mesh grilles using black Race Mesh from Ebay or Amazon tied to the plastic 'fins' with small black cable ties, works a treat, leaves bugs and stones are filtered out.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So lots of hosing and compressed air to get it all clean did the trick!

I have just taken the front bumper and cowls off to check the radiators and as expected there was a good collection of debris between the rads. Big bits brush away easy enough but there is lots of dirt wedged into the radiator fins. What is the best way to remove this? Pressure washer? Compressed air? toothpick?
Vacuum hoover with the brush attachment not the hard nozzle (seek vacuum owners permission). Worked a treat for me earlier this year. I then made some custom mesh grilles using black Race Mesh from Ebay or Amazon tied to the plastic 'fins' with small black cable ties, works a treat, leaves bugs and stones are filtered out.
Thanks for that, I think suking it out rather than ramming the gunk further in is a good idea!
I have some mesh to make up some grills but think I will make radiator inspection a frequent thing as its fairly quick and easy to wip the front bumper off
I fitted black ali mesh to my 986, cost about £10 on eBay, and a couple of hours with tin sips and a hot glue gun to locate them. Hardly get any debris build up in the rads and condensers now so doesn't need to be as frequent a clean...
Just checking for clarity - did you take the a/c condenser off the radiator to get then crap out from in between? If not, then do as this is where most of it lives.
Agree with vacuum cleaner approach and SOFT brush.
Regarding wire mesh - the C4S is best left original in my opinion. The zunsport solution requires hacking away the inlet which is not good. Also, wire mesh restricts air flow. As you have quite a valuable 3.9 installed, I'd recommend leaving original and clean out from the front regularly over the winter by sticking in a suitable rubber extension piece on a vacuum cleaner and then repeat the process you are doing at the moment every 2 years.
Just my 2 cent worth as that's my approach now. And I did previously add wire mesh to my 3.2 Boxster when I owned it but I wouldn't do it now.

I quite enjoy pulling the car to pieces and cleaning it so it's no hardship to check it regularly
