They were fitted when I bought the car but I think they are the sports system ones.

Suggestion

A good friend of mine now has the Designtek switchable exhaust boxes (it uses a fob to control the valves) & the sound is more akin to an air cooled 911 in 'quiet mode" & with the valves open more like a racing 911.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need to fit new silencers to my C4 cab. I've had a look in the shed and found a slightly used pair of Dansk silencers, and a brand new pair of Milltek ones. I am away that the joints on the Dansk ones are known to not last very long, but does anybody have experience of the relative sound of these two, particularly in a cab? Thanks. MC

POST 2Original post

I loved the sound from my Dansk. Awesome sweet spot between 2.5k-3.5k rpm. Especially in 2nd in a walled area. Can't comment on the Miltek.

POST 3Original post

No experience of the milltek I'm afraid (but have on other vehicles and was always pleased with the quality and sound). Have dansk on my 996, it's the louder version (supersound I think). Great noise when pushing on but I do find it a bit boomy at times when cruising at certain rpm

POST 4Original post

I've got milltek boxes on mine and they sound fantastic when the throttle is open but can cruise along the motorway without droning. They were fitted when I bought the car but I think they are the sports system ones.

POST 5Original post

I'm a little disappointed Martin, a man of your talents could of tried and compared both pairs of silencers in the time it took you to write your opening post  No direct comparison here but I went from the louder Top Gear silencers on an otherwise standard system to Milltek silencers with Top Gear manifolds and their 200 cell 63mm x-pipe cats, the new system is a lot easier to live with, my old set up sounded great but was loud all the time and a bit droney, there's definitely more science involved with the sound of the Millteks, quite quiet when cruising but with an addictive cup car howl when pressing on, would I want my set up on a cab, possibly not and I'd sway towards the Dansk but back to the top of my reply, easy enough for you to try both :thumb:

POST 6Original post

A good friend of mine now has the Designtek switchable exhaust boxes (it uses a fob to control the valves) & the sound is more akin to an air cooled 911 in 'quiet mode" & with the valves open more like a racing 911. OP, look at / listen to a number of systems if you can before buying as each is different as to what sounds good/not although the possible fragility of the Dansk boxes compared to say the Topgear ones is something that should be considered - I think Topgear give a lifetime warranty during the purchaser's ownership & they wouldn't offer it unless they were sure the systems would last! FWIW, I have the sports sound Topgear boxes with the Xpipe and the combination makes more of a GT3 type sound & is of course louder than a stock system, but is slightly quieter than the Designtek switchable system IMO when in loud mode.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can't fit either at the moment as I'm waiting for new clamps to arrive. I have the Top Gear boxes and x pipe on Pinky and it sounds superb, but properly loud. Not what I want on the cab. As said, I can change them quickly enough if I don't like them, so I think I'll go the Dansk route to start with and see how I get on. Once put back together with new fixings it will be a doddle to change them. Thanks for the feedback guys. MC

POST 8Original post

My Cab has Millteks. I love them as they can be driven quietly if needed, but have a lovely howl when you want.

POST 9Original post

Whats the part number on the dansk ones? they could be the quiet or loud variety.
