Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I purchased a 1-owner, low mileage 2006 Cayman S last August... Car came from CA... Previous owner removed the PCM with Bose and installed an aftermarket sound system which is awful (poor reception, no R/L balance, etc, etc... Cheap Sony unit...)... The old PCM unit did not come with the sale of the car to me... ☹ I am looking to buy a reconditioned PCM (a 2.1) and have it put back in the car... I know, I know, I have read all kinds of remarks about how crappy (or “decent” it is according to others) the PCM/Bose unit is... And I may not install it now... Possibly down the road... In order to restore it back to it’s original condition... Who knows... When looking at reconditioned units online, I keep seeing something about “make certain to confirm that this part number is compatible with your make/model/chassis “... What are they referring to? I know the year, make, model, of course... And that it is a 987... But is there something else I need to know here? Something tied to the VIN that I need to call a Porsche dealership to get some sort of part number specific to my Cayman in particular? I am new to this... And electronics are NOT my forte... So any advice/help here would be greatly appreciated... TIA... Mike
