The symptom is that the engine just stops very occasionally at idle whilst moderately warm. I haven't had the opportunity to stick the car on a tester so no clue about fault codes (will be serviced end of Apr, early May so hoping to hang on until then). I suspect either the MAF or the coil packs, but there's no CEL and it seems to run smoothly the rest of the time. Any clues, please? Also, the suspension is creaking just a little bit so will probably look to having that sorted this year. I presume bushes of some sort.

Of the two, I would more suspect the MAF than the coil packs. A dodgy MAF won't throw a Check Engine light on a UK car, as it isn't programmed to do so. When it gets bad, it usually causes an ABS/PSM warning, as the DME and PSM units talk to each other, and if the DME gives an implausible signal to the PSM, the PSM light comes on. Coil packs would usually throw a CEL, as a misfire could cause an emissions-related fault, which does bring the light on. A diagnostic check should show what's wrong.
