Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My local Indy refused point blank to fit an LTT to my 997.1, it was about 4-5 years ago now but he said once fitted they don't run right after, he did explain at the time but it's been lost in the myths of time and no doubt proven otherwise since, at the time it made sense.

Serpentine belt - again, check the history but for ~50 quid you may as well if there's any doubt.

While the Aux belt is off, check the pulley bearings are smooth.

I think the recommended initial list is a good start.

I change the engine oil every 5k miles myself to manufacturers original spec regardless of what independent engine experts advise and I'm confident that the original thermostat is still doing its job.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Back to 911 ownership after a few years.
New car needs a major service.
What else to do?
Coilpacks?
AUX Belt?
Water pump and LLT? Anyone bought one of these?

Thanks All!
I'd be considering also replacing the brake fluid, gearbox oil and coolant as well if there's no sign of when these were last done. I'd also ask for the coolant/header tank to be checked.

He was prob busy and thought phah ,,,,,not to day mate ! but by not having it fitted and being as it's still running and on 178,000 miles it cant all be buncum ? Can it.
Maybe heat shields, and gearbox oil.
I had a LTT fitted to my 996 C4S when I bought it. Spyder performance brand that was of good quality and have had no issues. Many engine specialists recommend LTT.

If there's no record of the coilpacks being done I'd definitely look to do them at this point as the plugs are getting done.
Brake fluid should be every 2 years and has a separate section in the maintenance book so look to see when that was done.
Serpentine belt - again, check the history but for ~50 quid you may as well if there's any doubt.
Other than that, I wouldn't over think nor over service for the sake of it. Save money for bits that will almost certainly need attention, like 20 year old suspension arms and bushes.
Difficult to say without knowing the maintenance history and condition of the car. Let a trusted Indy be your guide when they see the car as to what's required now vs what would be good, but not essential yet.
+1 on these.
Not sure that you necessarily need to replace the coil packs but I would check that they are in good condition and not visibly cracking. If they are the later type, they have probably already been changed. If you are doing them, I would also do the plugs.
While the Aux belt is off, check the pulley bearings are smooth.
Also, probably worth a new water pump while the coolant is drained.
Thanks for all the comments.
Brakefluid was done a year ago with the brake lines
Gearbox oil was done with the clutch change.
Think I'm looking at major with sparks, coil packs, AUX belt, waterpump, LLT and coolant change! Better get the credit card ready!!
That's good to know, when I bought mine 10 years ago I didn't have one fitted and I too have no issues ? I'm fast approaching 200K miles and apart from the usual maintenance items there have been absolutely zero issues.
I just drive mine, I'm not a mechanic or mechanically minded. I change the engine oil every 5k miles myself to manufacturers original spec regardless of what independent engine experts advise and I'm confident that the original thermostat is still doing its job.
