This is not a probability of success.

I'm with Brucelee, if the sound is rythmatic it's probably a lifter that's bled down.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys: Went to start my '04 S Box this morning after not having driven it in about 12 days. Did not want to start. On the 2-3rd attempt it started but now there is a rhythmic clinck-clink-clink sound coming from the middle of the car. No smoke coming in the interior or backside. I poked my head under the back of the car to see if I could see anything rattling - like maybe a heat shield - but everything looks secure. I am the 2nd owner - it has been a one dealership baby previously. I have only put 3K on it since I got it with 13K on it. It had it's 15K service before I bought it. It's warrantied and I was wondering a) what could it be? b) should I try to drive it to the nearest dealer which is about 1.5 hrs away or have Porsche tow it? Let me know what you guys think. R/ Kennedi

POST 2Original post

I 'd suggest you pop open the engine compartment and see if you can isolate the sound to a location or component. Your not missing your cat are you?

POST 3Original post

When the Box sits for some time, the oil drains out of the lifters. When it is first restarted, they are quite noisy and don't quiet down until the car is quite warm. Did you drive it and warm it up? If you have no CEL on and no oil pressure light on, I would take it for a nice easy drive of about 30 minutes. After 10 or so, the engine will likely be back to where you want it. If you see lights or oil etc. STOP. Good luck.
