Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My original plan was to put the new part in the freezer and then apply mild heat to the crank carrier and try to remove the old pin with vise grips , I'm assuming some type of lock tight was used on the original install ?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was just about to start reassembling of my 2001 M96 when I noticed that the pin ( 99610111753 ) on the crank carrier that the chain tensioner paddle attaches to is worn considerably , my question is it easily removed and replaced and if so how ? May be hard to tell from the picture but the surface finish is worn through and its rough and pitted to the touch .

POST 2Original post

It is a press fit. Have the new part in-hand, before you remove the worn item!

My original plan was to put the new part in the freezer and then apply mild heat to the crank carrier and try to remove the old pin with vise grips , I'm assuming some type of lock tight was used on the original install ? Hoping someone has already done this and can offer some pointers .

POST 4Original post

I haven't removed it but I doubt loctite or another retaining compound has been used at the factory. It is just a press fit.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For others that may some day have to deal with replacing this pin I was able to take the crank carrier assembly to my local machine shop and they have a tool called a pin puller just for this type of job, it took just a few minutes and it was out for just a few bucks, now I just have to wait for the new one to show up and the same machine shop will press it back in .
