Before I take it in and get a big bill, has anyone got a quick check/fix. The car does not lock and the horn sounds twice. All doors etc are shut. Any ideas?

A double-beep indicates a system fault, and you need to get a diagnostic check to see what's wrong. My money would be on a dodgy microswitch in the door lock assembly. You can lock the car with the key using the emergency locking procedure. Turn the key to the lock position and back three times in quick succession.
