On my Acura, I can set a pin to prevent this, but do not see a way to do it on the Porsche.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

It is a good idea not to name one of your stored address "Home". If your car ever gets stolen, there have been cases where the thieves look at the navigation for home, go there, use the home link to gain access to your garage and rob you again. On my Acura, I can set a pin to prevent this, but do not see a way to do it on the Porsche. Is it possible to password protect certain stored destinations? Vin Theft

POST 2Original post

Great advice! My wife's Cayenne has PCM, I will have to go out and check to see if the home address has been added. Thanks!

POST 3Original post

Just think the ability to associate a pin with home and stored addresses is a missing feature of PCM with Nav. Also touch screen and voice navigation would be nice as well.

POST 4Original post

That article talks about getting the VIN and says to not worry about it because its too much work. I have had a spare key made for the Cayman and its not easy. For one reason, I doubt they have the parts in stock and have to order them. I think you can only make 6 keys and they record everything. I wouldn't worry about the VIN thing. As to "home", well they got to steal the car first meaning getting through the immobolizer. What are the car theft rates for Porsches? See http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/staticfile...les/DOT/NHTSA/Vehicle Safety/Articles/Associated Files/Final-TheftData-2004.pdf for the latest info in 2004 The 911 ranked 141st place, The 987 ranked 154th place out of 230 The actual numbers are 4 987s and 11 911s. Home | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) | U.S. Department of Transportation I certainly advocated protecting your vehicle and if a thief really wants your car, he/she is just going to tow it away

POST 5Original post

As w/ insurance, I'd consider the expected loss (the risk of this actually happening x the total loss exposure if it did) vs. the "cost" of doing so. It would be damn near impossible for a thief to get a Cayman started unless they stole your ignition key.
