Aluminum is nice because it can be machined with a conventional router using carbide bits and then careful bent over a form to get the gentle curve of the dash.

Is there anyone out there that has had the Pioneer AVICD3 installed aware of a factory looking surround trim piece other than the one offered in the Japanese kit available on Ebay? I emailed the company and they will not sell the surround piece separately. I don't want to spend $350.00 for the complete kit as I have had the unit installed already. My installer used black carpet nearly identical to the carpet in the car. It looks good but not factory. Any suggestions? Thanks, Frank

Black Carpet. Hmmm. My guy used gray vinyl that matches the leather. I would have preferred a hard trim piece painted to match, but it's not terrible. Search for my thread for pics.

Maybe you could pull the faceplate off the factory stereo and have it cut to fit. Unfortunately that would make in unusable if you ever wanted to put the factory stereo back in if you go to sell the car. But a good installer should be able to fabricate a new faceplate. You could give them the factory faceplate to serve as a mold to fabricate a new one.

A lot of the high end car audio shops can make trim pieces out of aluminum. I have done this myself when I had access to vertical milling machines. Aluminum is nice because it can be machined with a conventional router using carbide bits and then careful bent over a form to get the gentle curve of the dash. edo
