Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys anyone know how easy it is to change the speedo 175mph dialfaces my early 3.4 litre 996 has, to the later 200mph (i think) ones? also, does one need to get a whole new speedo, if one puts one of the dial "coloured" kits on, for example, then surely its overeading all the time? Also, does anyone think circa £300 for some coloured dial covers is bloody expensive? Thanks Edward

POST 2Original post

Re: Changing Speedo faces/machanics from 175mph to later one Are planning on recalibrating the speedo to support the new faces if you don't get a new speedo mech?

POST 3Original post

Hi Edward, I originally looked into changing the colour of my dials and couldn't beleive the price of them!!! Surely to god they aren't hi technology items, aren't they just some coloured plastic??? I assume you are looking at the ones from PorscheShop.co.uk?? I really don't understand why they cost so much :x I after I found out how much they were, I amazingly fell in love with the original colour of my dials!!! Regarding changing them for the 200 mph version, I assume you would need to change the whole speedo unit as the 176 mph unit would rotate at a certain number of degrees per mph and the 200 mph version would rotate at a lesser number of degrees per mph to allow for the extra 24 mph in the same area. You may also need to change the speed sender unit as well to match the dash. Starting to sound expensive :nooo: Rob

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Re: Changing Speedo faces/machanics from 175mph to later one Thanks Damian, you have raised a good point, that you can recalibrate the standard dials, rather than replacing them with newer unit, which was one thing I was wonderign. This could be expensive, I wonder who does it! Rob - Yes I was looking at the Porscheshop ones, and various other Gemballa and Techart ones etc. There is nothing technical at all about them, ridiculous! They could even be stickers that go on top! I may even paint my ones if I get really desperate! Joke! I remember seeign Styling Garage SGS in the 1980's did hand painted and guilded dials on their Mercedes Gullwings etc, some with diamond inserts for the Arabs! Thanks guys Edward

POST 5Original post

Totally agree - the black dials are definitely more classy! 8)

I've got silver on my car.........hate them, awful to see in the twilight

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quite fancy some black writing on white faces

POST 8Original post

Can't help you on the 175-200 thing but I recommend you don't go down the 'sticker' route. Have a look at http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=36171&highlight=needles and http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=33202&highlight=needles
