John, discs are not a warranty item, that is 'wear and tear', so i do not believe they can make you change these before issuing a warranty.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Old forum user Unidentified(11139) wrote: has anyone noticed a link between their 996 missfiring and rain? Mine has recently developed a missfire which caused the engine management light to come on, 2 days later i was about to take it to a specialist when the missfire stopped and the light went out. All was fine for about 4 days when this morning (heavy rain all night and today) the missfire is back and the light is on. The missfire only seems to occur when it rains. Can water get into the engine bay through the rear spoiler? If it can then maybee the cause is dampness round the MAF, my drive is on a slope so the car is parked nose down, maybee i should reverse in... Any ideas? I'll take it to the specialist anyway just to make sure. Migration info. Legacy thread was 79941

POST 2Original post

I just had my MAF sensor replaced in it came on after some heavy rain. But mine stayed on. So could be that. Mine was replaced under warranty. Migration info. Legacy thread was 79946

POST 3Original post

i HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE COIL PACKS. aPPARENTLY THEY CRACK AND WHEN ITS WET (sorry for the capitals but I cant be bothered to go back and re-type!!) they cause a misfire. I had mine fixed under warranty by the OPC but I dont think they are too expensive. Migration info. Legacy thread was 79948

POST 4Original post

I think I am right in saying that if you leave your spoiler in the "up" position when parked it does allow more water in when it rains. Coil packs do crack easily on 996's but they are relatively cheap at about £25 each Migration info. Legacy thread was 79952

POST 5Original post

I've started to get a similar problem in the wet. My mechanic suspects coils. Great to see they are covered under warranty Phil! Migration info. Legacy thread was 79953

POST 6Original post

i had cracked coil pack too, obvioulsy another 996 feature, but no big deal, sorted under warranty. Migration info. Legacy thread was 79954

Old forum user Unidentified(11139) wrote: I had an idea it would be the coil packs and not the MAF. The coils are a ***** to get at though, looks like the silencers need to come off. Easy for you guys with warrantees. Migration info. Legacy thread was 79963

POST 8Original post

My 993 is the same... If it rains she misfires for about 2-3 mins.. Migration info. Legacy thread was 79964

POST 9Original post

Nope, no discernible difference here, although she does stay tucked up in the garage so not time for water to seep in..... Migration info. Legacy thread was 79966

POST 10Original post

Yours is a 99 like mine so you should get her inspected and then buy a warranty. I have to say i like my warranty alot. When my coil went they collected the car at 8 am and I had an E class by 10 delivered to my office! And not a penny to pay. Fantastic service to boot. Migration info. Legacy thread was 79968

Old forum user Unidentified(11139) wrote: A warranty is all well and good but when it costs £750 from OPC and they give you a list of things that need doing costing £3k+ like new discs etc before they put their name to it, it's a different story. The last time i wen't to the OPC to have a coolant leak checked they gave me a free inspection and highlighted the discs etc. so I presume that if I applied for a warranty and they do their 150 inspection they will require those things to be done first. I don't know where they got £3k from for 2 discs which cost no more than £100 each. The other things they reported were a few bits of plastic trim underneath the car which were missing (fins of some description) and some king of oil seal (something to do with a cam?) - which isn't actually leaking, just looks moist. Can't help feeling they were trying to scam me. Migration info. Legacy thread was 79971

POST 13Original post

That’s right. They gave me a list of stuff including brakes and suspension noises-but said I only have to do the items that are covered under warranty. So that was only the cam cover leak which was £550. Believe you me I have has all the outlay back. 4 oil leaks at once that would have totalled 2K alone. But the best bit is getting in it and driving it like you stole it without worrying about it  Migration info. Legacy thread was 79983

POST 14Original post

gota just say i did have such a prob after i washed the engine compartment - took her in for a check up..... a quick spray with wd40 type stuff and a trip on the computer to extinguish the warning light and she`s as good as new again! "no charge sir" says friendly garage owner......"we just love your car being here" sez he! she`ll be back in soon for 50k service. 996....... defo gets you places! Migration info.
