Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi everyone, I love the sound of the Carnewal GT exhaust .. but thing is, im based in Hong Kong and the cost of shipping it over is... not very cheap as you can imagine. So im looking to modify the stock exhaust to some extend hoping to replicate that sound. Did some research and noted the following: 987.2 does not have secondary CATs, so that's out of the way (was told Carnewal removes that for Gen 1 cars) Replace the tiny pipe as drawn with red with a bigger pipping, but not connecting to the funnel looking pipe just to leave so space between them Is this all there needs to be done ? Do any holes need to be drill in any of those pipes ? Appreciate the help guys !

POST 3Original post

I did something similar. Great to begin with and very noticeable increase in sound and also a lower more aggressive note. As time went by though, the drone in the dreaded range got to be rather unbearable.... for me at least. I've since switched out to a stock R exhaust which I find a tad soft now lol. I've read mixed reviews of the carnewal . Some say no drone. Some say there's still drone. Depending on the clip I watch, the sound is meh to nice to my ears. Its the safest route for MOT reasons though.

Has anyone got Pictures of the modification Process Start to finish See how we go Thanks Mr Burns

POST 5Original post

I did this on my 987.1 . No pics but here is an explanation of what I did. Remove exaust. Engrave or scribe a straight line on top of the muffler over the weld and onto the cat chamber. ( 987.1 ). Next using a 3 inch abrasive cutoff wheel in a die grinder , cut through the middle of the weld all the way around. Cut just deep enough to get through the first layer as there is a slip fit of the cat chamber into the muffler. Youll understand when you seperate the two pieces. The line you engraved will be used to line it back up for welding. Next use a 1.5 inch hole saw in an electric drill to cut the little pipe at the base of the cone out. Go slow rpm and be patient. You need a u bend of 1.5 inch exaust tube. Steel works fine here. Cut to make two 90 degree pieces long enough to do what you see in the photo you posted. Weld that in place like the photo. Next weld the two pieces back together being careful to align the scribe line. Repeat for other side. The finishing touch here is a fabspeed x pipe tip. I absolutely love it. Hope this helps you. Lester

POST 6Original post

Lester if you put a Valve on that new piece of pipe would that be close to a PSE I’m sure it can be done

POST 8Original post

As stated above, I explained what I did to my muffler. I have no idea if it is similar to the carnwall mod. I like the way it sounds now. No drone at cruise or normal accrleration. It doesn't t get loud until you punch it, then it screams flat six.
