Hey Guys,
A few weeks ago we did a run-through on the 991
PSE
system, by popular demand we bring you the 987-
981
!! Let us know what you'd like to see
next
.
Take a look inside the factory
exhaust
that's on your
Boxster
or
Cayman
model.
Fabspeed
owner, Joe Fabiani, explains how
Porsche
designed the
exhaust
system and how it's limited.
You;re saying the 987.1 and 987.2 exhaust are exactly the same?
I'm not buying the design's exclusive purpose being to cripple the performance of these models. After all, what's easier to change than a muffler? What sense would that make? If all that was needed was a muffler swap to gain massive performance gains without any downside it would be equivalent to the deterrent tabs I cut off the Listerine mouthwash
cap
, everyone would "just do it". I believe the smaller displacement and lower performance numbers when contrasted against
911
's achieve that goal.
I altered my
986
and although it was awesome top down a long trip top up would have sucked, period. There's the real choice, drone or a few HP you're very unlikely to appreciate without commensurate alterations of collateral systems. In one advertisement of the 951,
Porsche
showed the bevvy of parts that were altered to create the Turbo 944 to illustrate the point they didn't just add what Paul Neuman called "a puffer". ( pulled from the David Letterman episode of Comedian's in cars getting coffee / blown Volvo wagon). This is similar, some of the internet clips of people leaving a stand still as quickly as possible to redline to demonstrate the new harmonics they achieved by outwitting
Porsche
engineers remind me of the cat delete test pipe I put on my Cosworth Vega thinking it sounded radical. It just sounded like a car in need of
exhaust
work but as a youngster I thought differently.
Just my opinions. Everyone should do whatever brings them joy, it's an ever more difficult commodity to acquire in a short life that feels long sometimes.
Agreed---it would be easier to dial back the throttle opening software in the ECM on the
981
--as they did
.
Has Joey ever cut open one of his
exhaust
systems to display for
Fabspeed
constructs their muffler?
We absolutely have Cut-outs of our
Fabspeed
Systems! Stop by and check them out!
Obviously minor design iterations, but overall they are extremely similar.
I've been tinkering on the
Carnewal GT
modified
exhaust
for a long time now and my guess is they cut the internal pipe (one that connects the tips) to get more direct gas flow and higher sound volume. I think a long shaft
die grinder
with carbide burr tip can be inserted inside the pipe to grind off maybe 1/2 inch to 1 inch or make big holes.
