Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a question about the typical Sports Design 10 spoke alloy wheels. I am considering getting the spokes painted in Basalt Black and the outer edges polished and re-laquered. Are these actual split-rims? This would make the task a lot easier. Thanks in advance. Lloyd

POST 2Original post

Dan's done something similar to his SportDesigns except in a grey colour. He should be here in a short while; post up your pics Dan? ~ Maxie

POST 3Original post

Yes, taking the bolts out splits the wheel components. Polishing the outer edges will not take subsequent lacquer. You need to get them diamond turned which leaves a record groove effect. However this is not a very resilient finish (the new wheels had this, which is why they go off in no time). Better to go anodised or have them painted silver - will be alot better lasting. I think this is what Dan did.

POST 4Original post

My rims had been previously painted silver and it outlived the lacquer on the inner spokes, so I had them painted silver again when they were refurbed. Black inners look so good :thumb: TB

POST 5Original post

when i had mine refurbed at lepsons i chose to have the outside bit lacquered, although they warned me once you split the plastic coating bit, water ingress makes it look rank. i have split the plastic coating bit, and it looks rank. am going to get them redone, and am also going to have satin black centres, with anodised or painted silver rims. I think black centres look awesome and show up less dirt, especially if you get them satin.

POST 6Original post

I did mine.. Yep you undo all the bolts (tighten the up before undoing them), push the middle out, and away you go. I painted both the centres and the rims. If you need to know about putting them back together PM me I have all the touque settings for them. :thumb: (I did my door mirror the same colour  )

POST 7Original post

nono to lacquer :nooo: painted outer rims are the way to go :thumb:

POST 8Original post

Mine had a light dusting of the rims, nothing too much ! :thumb:

POST 9Original post

I stripped down the wheels off my Mk. 1 GT3 and had them shotblasted and then powder coated. Outers silver and inners black. Here is a link to my entry on this site which gives full details, torque settings for bolts etc. Hope it helps. http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=28729&highlight=wheel Rgds. Tony

POST 10Original post

painting the rim of the wheels is the only way to go in my opinion. diamond turning and lacquering will only need doing again within a year, especially coming up winter with all the grit and salt on the roads, a stone chip will very quickly see the lacquer turning a milky color. here's a set we did for a customer a little while ago. unfortunately he only wanted the rims done, not the centres, hence why they centres look a bit dirty in some of the pics - this dirt was embedded in the paint and wouldn't shift. some aggresive clay would've solved it but it would've been a very time consuming task.
