As it's the PU I'm strongly tempted to take it a local repair shop (they did a great job on my Boxster rear PU).

I would only use an official Porsche repair shop if the paint/bodywork was damaged, because of the 10 year corrosion warranty.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Like a total tool, I managed to reverse into another car today that was sitting in my blind spot. I've damaged the PU and split it slightly.
As it's the PU I'm strongly tempted to take it a local repair shop (they did a great job on my Boxster rear PU).
What sort of quotes have people been seeing and do you think it's worth sourching a PU from somewhere like design911 to save a few quid?
The other option is Bodytechniques, but I've had problems with them in the past and if the cost is reasonable I'm keen to avoid going through
insurance
.
Cheers,

someone dinged mine a few years back on the corner and put a very small crack in it. Official Porsche repairer said whole new bumper, local ferrari garage said no need - they put some sort of patch on the back of it, and repainted the lot. Perfect. Cost £400 IIRC.
Hi,
I think it's called a PU, because it actually isn't the bumper!
I believe the bumper is a metal beam that sits behind the PU part. The PU is really just a cover that has enough flexibility to reform it's shape for low impact knocks (eg. less than 5mph).
If anyone's interested, these were the quotes:
a. Same rear PU, repaired, re-sprayed, re-fitted, £260 + VAT.
b. New rear PU, re-sprayed, fitted and drilled for ParkAssist, £600 + VAT
The cost a new rear PU is £400 + VAT including the parts.
I'll go for the cheaper option, with the risk that if it gets smacked again, it might split in the same place a lot easier (although unlikely).
As I said before, I've used this place a couple of times before and I've been really pleased with the work...much, much better than BodyTechniques.
Cheers for all the responses.
That is rather eye-watering. I would only use an official Porsche repair shop if the paint/bodywork was damaged, because of the 10 year corrosion warranty. In this case, it's just the plastic bumper, so it wouldn't be included anyway.
In your case, was it just the plastic PU, or was the actual metal bumper damaged/mis-shapen as well?
PU, brackets number plate etc but I wasn't paying { other guy rear ended me in traffic jam} so got it done anyway.
If it was down to me, I would have gone down your route.

On the same topic of bumper repairs/resprays.....
Some W***** :x scrapped my car on the front cornor N/S bumper, the paint has been scrapped with the top coat being taken off on the cornor! and a few scratches...but nothing too deep. Would a smart repair be possible on this? or am i looking at a full respray?
(Will post pic hopefully tonight!)
Cheers
If it's just the PU that's damaged and not the bodywork (paint), then a chips-away should be ok. Make sure they use the right sort of paint though, ie. it needs to be flexible acrylic paint, otherwise it cracks and eggshells.
Make sure the repairer has the ability the heat the bumper to dry the paint though, especially in this weather.
