UPDATE:
I have had ZERO response from Sam at EVOMS. The shop I'm working with has offered to replace the software with softronic's equivalent. I am worried though that bc the rest of the modifications weren't designed with softronic's in mind that there might be issues.
Does anyone have any idea how softronic might work with an otherwise RS350 package?
Hi all,
I really hesitated to post this because it really seemed like EVOMS has an outstanding reputation, but my experience so far has not been good.
Last fall, I ordered the RS350 package for my
987.1
Cayman S
. The shop I used is very well regarded in the Charleston SC area (European Road and Racing). I also purchased the lightweight flywheel from Sharkwerks and Maxflo exhaust from Fabspeed.
Since installation, I have had the following issues:
Check engine light
Whooshing noise under 3k (ish) RPMs under acceleration. Seems to be coming from the right side of the car (around where the side air intake is)
Idle die down (intermittent but often enough to cause concern)
Rough idle on cold starts (fluctuations up to 500 RPM)
TPC not detected warnings (assuming this is unrelated since I also switched to Michelins around the same time)
The shop I worked with insists there is nothing mechanically wrong with the car and that all this (not the TPC issues) is likely to do with the tune. They claim to have contacted EVO for a replacement tune since they lost the original flash drive. The car was at their shop for about 4 months and they recently gave it back to me to drive while they waited for the replacement tune.
So, essentially, we have been trying to interface with EVO for 4 months to almost no avail.
I was finally able to get in contact with Sam at EVO and received a couple emails from him. After that, total silence. At this point, we are going on nearly half a year that I have been trying to get this package straightened out.
Has anyone else had a negative experience with EVOMS? I specifically went with the RS350 package due to the lifetime warranty. I've also wondered if perhaps European Road and Racing was not on top of everything, but given my lack of communication with Sam, I'm inclined to believe they are in the right.
I have EVOMS intake
Soul performance street headers with cats
GT3 throttle body
The IPD competition Intake plenum
Softronic tune for 93 octane
And my car runs to perfection.
I would try the softronic file.

seems weird that your shop lost the flash drive and then offered to softronics for free? seems fishy there like they're covering up a mistake. As for softronics, that is what I have and he was easy to work with, I got my tune a few months ago.
Seems like softronic has a good reputation. I'll wait another week for evoms to maybe come thru. Ty for the feedback.
I did think it was fishy too.
Thank you for the feedback. I will give Evo one more week and go with softronic.
Ask your shop to allow you to interface with Scott at Softronics. He is great to deal with and will deliver his "987
Cayman
Race Plenum flash" package through the web to a microsoft/windows lap top, Scott then sends you the connection from your laptop to your ECU. Scott new software flash targets the higher volumetric efficiency of the intake and engine by completely retuning the remaining intake resonance valve, Vario Cam Plus, Ignition, and Fuel delivery maps. He will actually modify his existing programs to exactly fit your needs.
I have had his flash working on my car for a couple of years now. No need to go back to the original OEM system as Scott's simply works better. It completely took out the flat spot in the torque curve around 4000-4500 so the motor pulls evenly throughout the torque band all the way to 7000. Not only that, but it improves the torque curve so you can use that additional torque early on so you do not need to wind out the motor nearly as often. Just a great flash that Scott has developed over time.
You can read my build in the footer, it's very close to yours except for Scott's Softronics, Soul long tube catless headers and a GT3 78mm throttle body kit that Scott uses.
Wow it sounds like Softronic is the way to go. I will look into your build!
Looks like there is a trend at EvoMS about not being available. I had tried to contact them in Dec 2020 with no success. Over the past two weeks I have again been trying to contact them both via email and over the phone with no success. I have emailed all addresses I found on the forums and tried calling them at different hours of the day and left messages - you guessed it with no success. I will now explore Softronic and FVD options.
Softronics is a great small company. Scott can tie all our mods together into a great package. He sends two files to you after you download your current file to him. He then modifies it with a giant file with many internal decision points. What this does is on start up, your car starts to warm up at around 1000 rpm, then after 30 seconds returns to normal idle of 700, Your light weight flywheel may need 800 to help you get going without stalling. The other parts of his flash is a smooth delivery of all the components you have selected. I know FVD does this through their german connection, but Scott does it himself. Give Scott a call, you can tell he knows his stuff. I upgraded a couple of years ago when I added a Soul long tube catless header system into a Milltec muffler. He worked out the fuel flow/air flow and rebound flow rates on the top end that relate to the back pressure wave from the exhaust side. His system seems to work very well.
Keep in mind that the M97 engine was not designed to turn more than 7000, so the idea is to maximize the torque curve up to the shift points taking away the inherent flat spot around 4000. His flash does that in spades. Can't go wrong with Softronics, especially with your engine build.
