As you say - it is irritating as I will almost certainly never use it (never have used em!)
Leading evidence: 'Use em!)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'first thing i thought of - would have' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check seat travel, can the runners be moved back slightly' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Hi mate - the runners cant be moved sadly - it was the first thing I thought of - would have solved most problems.

Worth possibly checking the seat travel, can the runners be moved back slightly?

What I would love to do is change the seat first, and then if more room is required, change the wheel as well.

I recall there being a post previously (not sure if it was for the 996) but one of the options raised was to change the steering wheel to the racing type to provide more legroom.

I did test drive a 40th Anniversary model with the same sport seats and it had about 6" less travel backwards for some reason, all the way back and I was slightly cramped.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all
I am having a little trouble with my 996tt
I bought it knowing full well this was a bit of an issue, so sympathy is definatley not warranted, but there must be a solution.
Basically, I have the full electric seats, and I need to make my seat sit lower than it does.
I have been told that the half electric seats can be modified to reduce the overall height for people such as me, but that is all I know.
Has anyone had this done? Who did it, and how much did they/ you gain?
Any other ideas also happily considered
Help!
Thanks
JJ
LOL to the Freak! I am most useful for reaching things!
They are normal seats, not sport ones - as stated - sport seats are for thin people - I dont count!

I'm 6'2'' and don't have the seat fully back, there's still a good few inches to play with. I have electric sport seats with the manual back and forth bit. There's also plenty of head room. I did test drive a 40th Anniversary model with the same sport seats and it had about 6" less travel backwards for some reason, all the way back and I was slightly cramped. Worth possibly checking the seat travel, can the runners be moved back slightly?
Hi mate - the runners cant be moved sadly - it was the first thing I thought of - would have solved most problems. I have been told that the half electric seats (which you have) are very very slightly more generous to start with, but importantly can be modified to provide a little more. As I understand it. the electric motors under my seat prevent it from being meaningfully modified.
At 6ft 2, I am not surprised that you have plenty of room - 3" would make all the difference to me! I do fit, but only just.
I sat in a 997 the other day - lucky bastards! Loads more room! Typical
JJ
My last C4 had fully electric and again there was extra play so maybe that 3" makes all the difference...
I actually saw a 996tt earlier today and the guy driving it had the seat back moved so it was half way along the drivers window, think he may have had the opposite problem :?
Could be - though you probably arent a fat bastard like me - which I guess helps!
I can only dream of putting a seat forward of all the way back! To be fair, it has been pretty much like that for all the cars I have owned (even my old 7 series!)
JJ
Is the problem you having with the headspace I presume? Or the leg room?
I recall there being a post previously (not sure if it was for the 996) but one of the options raised was to change the steering wheel to the racing type to provide more legroom.
Probably not the answer your looking for but just throwing ideas around incase it helps...
:?:
Hi matey
I have thought about doing that I must admit, though the cost of a wheel is quite high (1100 euros for the RUF jobbie). That would solve part of the legroom issue, but headroom is also not great. I certainly couldnt wear a helmet in the car.
What I would love to do is change the seat first, and then if more room is required, change the wheel as well.

I'm 6'5" (hence Big Bob) with a 996, but not with full electric seats. But no problem with headroom. I'm long in hip to head too.
Do you also have a sun roof in your car?
If you have, this could be the reason as you lose about 1.5" with the Sun Roof.
Did anyone give you an answer whether it was possible to get the seat lower?
Regard Big Bob
Hi Bob
Ref sunroof - yes - apparently all the TTs of that gen had them as std. As you say - it is irritating as I will almost certainly never use it (never have used em!)
As far as the seat is concerned, I am still relying on the main dealer advice, though the guy that usually does the mods is being rather illusive.
Typical!
