Hi all,
Just purchased a 2009
987.2
CS
PDK
. As I understand it, my 987 has a 3rd/center radiator. I also live in a state that requires a front license plate. I have plans on adding the license plate near the center bottom half of the front, blocking the middle part of what I assume is the air intake for the 3rd radiator. My question is, would this be okay or would it be blocking too much air and cause any cooling issues?
Thanks,
Sina
I do exactly this on my
981
and have for three years now. I haven’t noticed any issues. Are you blocking some air from getting to your central rad? Yes. Do you track your car? If I tracked my car I would remove the plate first. For street driving it won’t make a difference.
Yeah that’s kinda what I figured. Out of curiosity how did you go about putting your plate there?
Another option is to use a tow hook plate mount. This way you avoid blocking the radiator and drilling holes in the bumper.
Something like this:
US Mill Works - Front License Plate Brackets
No-drill license plate brackets for Porsche and BMW

Yeah, I have the Mill Works one in the link and it works very well. No drilling and doesn't block the radiators at all.
Yea I’ve seen that option but I just can’t get over the off center look. Looks best sitting low in the middle IMO.
This is a front license plate bracket that can be removed in seconds by pulling on the release spring of the block that is mounted underneath the car.
Admittedly the mounting holes are configured for where the Mazdarati
has factory fasteners. But I have always felt that it should be possible to adapt this kit to almost any car that you would want the capability to quickly remove the license plate, AND not drill holes in the face of your car.
Here it is mounted on my low clearance Miata.
I might fetch another and see if I can adapt it to my 987.1
I think off center looks kinda cool. Also the tow hook mount is solid, yet easy to remove. I just installed mine and quite happy 😊
