Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I never use full throttle, or more than about 3,500 rpm, until properly warm, and I heel and toe every down-change (82,000 miles out of my last clutch).

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What amazes me is that these ultra high-milers are still commanding top dollar.....In the UK, a 996 with 240k miles would surely be under £10k, no?
~ Maxie :?:
That's about £18,000. You can find 120,000-mile 996s in the UK for less than that. Of course, that's the asking price. Doesn't mean it's worth that.
Still, it's good to see a 996 with that sort of mileage. If it's been well maintained then why shouldn't a 996 keep going?
Anyone in the UK got a high-mileage 996?
Cheers
Phil
I wonder if it's the original engine. If it is, then the car is probably worth about a fiver.
On the other hand, I have a broom that is as good as the day I bought it. It's only had 3 new heads and 2 new handles.
I thought 3.4s with original engines were now classics? :thumb:
Are we a fan of only fools and horses by any chance?
Mine is just over 105,000 now - original engine and still going strong as far as I can tell!
I think Andy C's is on its second engine IIRC.
I think mechanical sympathy in use is actually more important than maintenance to be honest (although of course you would be silly not to maintain it properly as well)

As far as maintenance is concerned, I have my car serviced every 12-13,000 miles and that's it, and the only engine-related parts I've needed since I bought the car (at 42,000 miles) are 1 x MAF, 1 set of coil packs, and one radiator.
There are plenty of guys here with 100K+ on the original engines:

There was a guy on PCGB who had 143K on his 3.4 when he sold it and it was still going strong:

I'm sure Wattie is spot on - it's how you drive it and maintain it that's important. And, let's face it, even a "bullet-proof" air-cooled 911 engine would need a top end rebuild and set of rings by 100K.
However, you would have to wonder how long an original 235,000 miler 3.4 would have to go.
It's a Porsche broom so you can't buy the bristles on their own - it had to have a remanufactured head with the old type nylon bristles - there is a compatibility issue with the carbon fibre ones. I thought about aftermarket bristles, but Porsche told me it would have invalidated the warranty. When these ones wear out I'm taking it to an indy. The warranty is getting ridiculous at £13.95 a year, and I can't afford the compulsory servicing at the Official Brush Centre. :x
