Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
In 99, Porsche switched the gearbox manufacturer to Mercedes (so it was the same as on the Turbo) and this has something like 250 different driving variations/styles and is a more sporty set up (probably, hence the S).
Leading evidence: 'same as' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'same as' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean car (' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Thanks to Richard H for helping me with this-I phoned PCT in Coventry who had the 'wall' ready for collection on the saturday morning.....I then managed to replace the old with the new without trouble at all!!!

The paint needed a good polish which I spent several hours on sunday using G10,Autoglym Super Resin Shine polish and then Autoglym Aquawax. The paint does look much better(turns heads-I cant stop smiling and looking like a right smug git) however I am tempted to have her 'detailed' by the experts to remove some light 'scratches' and 'haze' marks.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all! I am the proud owner of my first ever Porsche!!! On saturday I had the choice of my new baby or an M3.
Can someone please tell me how exactly is this model(C4S) different to the base model or carrera 2?
The engine cover/tail has a rubber gate which lifts up with the tail but has split and needs replacing--what is this part called and where is the best place to find one second hand?
The paint needed a good polish which I spent several hours on sunday using G10,Autoglym Super Resin Shine polish and then Autoglym Aquawax. The paint does look much better(turns heads-I cant stop smiling and looking like a right smug git) however I am tempted to have her 'detailed' by the experts to remove some light 'scratches' and 'haze' marks.
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
I love this car!
Hi and Welcome!
What's all this nonsense about a 'credit crunch' then: We've had more first time Porsche owners on here in the last two weeks than I can remember in months before...
C4S has the wide 'Turbo' body, Turbo brakes, and a few other things that the 'C4S-Massive' will shortly be along to tell you about
The spoiler part is known as a 'curtain' I think? Mine went on my 993 as well, but I don't have one with the aerokit on my 996.
Another thing I don't have is a clean car (
), but 'G' is your man to get it detailed - Elite Detailing. In fact I think he recently posted some pics of a black 911 that your misses could use as a mirror for her make up!
Enjoy! 8)
Hi,
On a T-reg, it won't be a C4S, it will be C4 Tip S, there's quite a difference.
Wattie has explained the C4S above (ie Turbo (wide) bodied, normally aspirated 3.6..and red brake calipers). The automatic version of this would be (in full) C4S Tip S. These came out in 2001 and have the facelifted Turbo lights and other facelifted items, such as a glove box.
Your C4 Tip S (note the S has gone), means it's a 4 wheel drive Carerra (narrow bodied) and has grey brake calipers. As it's pre-2001, it will have Boxster style lights (but as it's post-98, they will be clear indicators, not orange) and have the (still fast) 3.4 engine.
The 4 wheel drive lives under the front bonnet and that's why the C4 has a shallower bonnet than the C2.
I believe the Tip S is just a marketing thing, but it's possible that it refers to the change in automatic gearbox manufacturers in 1999. In 99, Porsche switched the gearbox manufacturer to Mercedes (so it was the same as on the Turbo) and this has something like 250 different driving variations/styles and is a more sporty set up (probably, hence the S).
You couldn't order a more sporty Tiptrontic automatic box, you just got what they were OEMing at the time.
I've got a Tiptronic, because I commute a lot (and get fed up with the 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd a million times a morning).
As it has the manual paddles, it's a good compromise, but if I had the car as a pure weekend plaything, then I'd probably go for a manual.
The good news about the Tip is 2 main headliners:
1. They typically suffer less from the RMS issue (which isn't really much of an issue as you'd believe after "researching" on the Internet).
2. The engines cannot be thrashed, as the gearbox automatically changes up just before the red line. They also automatically change down as well.
Cheers,
GD :thumb:
Cheers for clearing that up guys!
Yep she is infact a C4 Tip S and having a brand new Porsche rebuild on the engine 1000 miles ago at 68000 and with reg maintenance I hope she will stay strong for a long while.
I agree on the rubber gate-at £50 quid you cant moan!! Thought it would be more like 300 ! Brilliant.
Thanks for your help! Matt :thumb:
