Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just added these to my C4S. I've always liked the triple stripes on early cars and I was concerned that it would be too over the top in a heavy contrast on a more contemporary model, so I opted to go with more of a ghost/muted effect. If I get bored of them, it was only $50 and an hour's worth of my time.

POST 4Original post

I also have a Silver car and think that looks badass (Ive been on the fence doing that for over a year).... can you send me the link of where you got it and what exact color that is to choose?

POST 6Original post

Nice! I have a seal gray and have been thinking I want to do it in black... Looks great, where did you buy them from? Are they 3.5"?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13578521

http://carreradecals.com/collections/side-panel-decals These are gray in 3.5". Lots of available colours. Ordered them on Monday and they arrived Wednesday. They ship to the US and Canada from London Ontario.

POST 9Original post

Put them on yesterday. I wanted to tie the black wheels in. Also from carreradecals.com

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 13578621

Did black on my seal grey boxster a few years ago. Looked freaking awesome. I then of course had to powdercoat my wheels black to .

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 13578810

Perfect, my wheels are already black! I think I will have to do this

POST 12Original post

Great looking mod on both cars. Personalized 911's are always interesting to see. Make 'em unique and your own custom ride.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 13578838

Here's a pic of my old 986. The Porsche stripes look good on these cars and the 996!

POST 14Original post

Good idea in case someone isn't sure what is parked next to them. Not my cup of tea, sorry.

POST 15Original post

Hate to copy you dude but I also have been debating putting the stripes on my Arctic Silver 2000 C2 hoping to get that muted effect but didn't know what color. I was thinking light grey or white. Always wanted a car with stripes on it, you'd think a 58 year old would grow up. Yours looks awesome, thanks.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13579842

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery! Hey I'm 54 and glad to hear that I don't have to grow up in the next 4 years!

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 13578347

Very nice!! Subtle but distinctive! I wonder what dark gray over black would look like..... probably just disappear...

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 13579842

Do it. If you don't like it, you can take it off. I have seen 996s with Mangnus Walker stickers, so this can't be worse than that.

POST 20Original post

My other 986 - silver with gunmetal grey stripes. I really liked this when I did it a few years ago. I have not done either of my 996 cab or 996 turbo but might!

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 13580108

Like an unmarked marked police car...........................

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 13580407

986?!? Too embarrased to call it the Boxter?

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 13580965

I call it a Boxster.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 13580965

havent owned either in years. I call it a 986 because thats what it is. Same if i called a 991 a 991. Both my Boxsters were cool cars. Not embarrased at all.

POST 25Original post

I think it really works well on these cars. Brings the sightlines down just a bit.

POST 26Original post

The 'grown up' 58 year olds are the ones driving Crown Victorias to work. **** that. Life's short. Drive the Porsche. Enjoy the stripes.

POST 27Original post

Your right f*** that, I'm ordering them in the morning

POST 28Original post

Haven't done the side stripes on my 996 or my 986, but my 987C already had them on, and I put 'em on both my 914s. Pongo, your stripes look great! Before: After: Before: After:

POST 29Original post

Before I order, how hard are they to remove, in case I don't like it or want to change?

POST 30Original post

I think they look great. The decals have become back in vogue lately. Very cool look.

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 13578347

Nice job Phil. No doubt the "ghost stripes" really look cool.

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 13582108

a little heat from a hair dryer and some patience is what i was told.

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13582108

I'm taking off the old 3m clear bra right now before I have a new one applied. I'm using an automotive steamer that I bought a few years ago to clean the carpets. Fairly easy to do. I followed the tutorial posted in the Concours and Car Care forum: https://rennlist.com/forums/concours...-tutorial.html

POST 36Original post

My iteration of the Porsche side decals, just enough contrast to be visible

POST 37Original post

wanted to say nice work on the decals... I like these but am too much of a follower to be the first in the city with a painted C2 996. Maybe in a few years there will be a bandwagon to hop on. They look great!

POST 38Original post

Just leave the car in the sun and you can peel them right off if you don't like them. No tools are needed. If they've been on for a few years you 'might' need to use a plastic edge like a credit card to get them to come off at parts.

POST 39Original post

Quotes source post: 13588710

Looks nice, can you post a picture that shows the full car.

POST 41Original post

Gives you a sense of how the lettering is visible from certain angles

POST 42Original post

Very nice!! Thanks I like your garage flooring also.

POST 43Original post

So that's what a Porsche looks like... Personally, the "Carrera" decals is more period correct IMO for the car and also educates people that a Porsche 911 is also referred to as a Carrera. The older looking decals would best be served with a 996 that went for a full retro theme with the Fuch wheels and duck bill spoiler IMO. Just my $0.02

POST 45Original post

Quotes source post: 13590862

Oooooh, the wheels are turning over here... shhh before I do something rash

POST 46Original post

Looks good all around. I almost put them on them on mine.

POST 47Original post

Quotes source post: 13590862

I almost went with the "Carrera 4s" decal, but all the Singer 911s have the triple stripe. I would love to put a duck tail on it, but I am afraid of the merciless mocking of the interwebs.

POST 48Original post

Quotes source post: 13579203

Nice, looks good. I think I may be doing this soon...

POST 49Original post

I'm going for the black Porsche triple stripe on my 996. Will post pics when installed. Here is the photoshopped pic:

POST 50Original post

I had the same graphics on my C4S. WaterWerks2013-3_zps55ef9e94.jpg WaterWerks2013-5_zps874ebe7e.jpg

POST 51Original post

You guys maybe onto something. It'll keep the avg public from mistaking it for a bug.

POST 52Original post

If my ride did not have what I am assuming are OEM Carerra 4S decals on the the doors I would be ordering these. I have a set of magnagrafix stripes like these in black that I had picked up for my 993 but never stuck on. Wish they were not black or I would see how they fit on the 996.

POST 54Original post

Added the stripes today. Took me a little bit over an hour to do it. I would highly recommend having the small plastic squeegee installation tool. Brand new x-acto knife blades, the very skinny snap off kind. Watch a couple of youtube videos to see how it's done. I think I like the way they look on my car. These are the 4 inch size. If I did it again I would go for the 3.5 inch size.

POST 55Original post

Quotes source post: 13590862

+1 on the Carrera script!

POST 56Original post

These look great, I've been thinking about doing black stripes on my red C4S, and had looked at the same ones.

POST 57Original post

Quotes source post: 13588710

Now that I like in preference to the stripes. Plain and simple.

POST 58Original post

I performed this yesterday with my Wife, She has the steady hands and attention for detail.

POST 60Original post

Installed my stripes today. I like them, looks really good with the black top. B3CCD70F-6CEB-4E13-BB15-02711C857BEB_zpspsa74lbr.jpg

POST 61Original post

Quotes source post: 13635727

MK1 with those 5-star wheels + front lip = tremendous, nice work Really like the look of the BBS CH-looking wheels on the Grey coupe above as well... BBS-CH on a 911 has long been my dream, but I still enjoy the OEM 5-stars

POST 64Original post

Glad you got the one that's spelled right... nothing more frustrating than to put the sticker on and realize it was spelled "Prosche". Those silly chinese! ha!

POST 66Original post

Quotes source post: 13636818

Did that really happen?

POST 68Original post

I did it to my 987 and have a set waiting for a little spare time for my 981. Not sure if I'll do in front of the wheels this time. I get them from the U.K. via eBay for about $30.

POST 70Original post

DSC_00332.jpg I decided to do the same as OP, gray on silver car. Very subtle, I think it looks great.

POST 71Original post

I installed a black GT3 lip on my silver car this week, so now I will probably do the Black Vinyl strips on it... Black GT3 wheels will also be in the future

POST 74Original post

Quotes source post: 13643257

Love the subtlety. If only red on red would look so good.

POST 75Original post

Quotes source post: 13614553

Rick, I still haven't forgotten this image.... for it has been forever burned in my brain! ha!

POST 76Original post

Wow these triple stripes look nice. Added to my list of potential mods.
