Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
I am wondering your opinions on something. I've got a meteor gray '11
Cayman
, standard wheels, no modifications. I'm not going with any theme or anything so there are no other color accents on the car or anything of that nature, just getting the calipers painted. Would you go with yellow or red?
Many thanks!
Just have your black calipers clear coated. It will give them a nice shine and they won't fade over the years. Not to sound like a snob but I wouldn't go with red if it isn't an S or yellow without carbon ceramics.
Lime green! Just kidding, unless you like it. Go with what you like. I'm trying to make up my mind on what color to refinish my calipers on my 08 Guards Red because my black calipers are looking rough. I am a little apprehensive about refinishing them because I'm wondering how durable it would be when I go to the track. Plus now that it's summer, I don't care to get out in my garage to do more work than I have to.
Going red calipers if not an S or yellow if not
PCCB
-equipped would be a bad idea, IMO. Almost like putting an S logo on base car, or putting a
Carrera
badge on a
Cayman
. The masses might not know or care...Porschephiles would wince.
On the other hand, if you don't care....
Well the thing is, I'm not trying to be a poser. I am happy not having an S and happy not having ceramic brakes and am not trying to fool anyone of anything. I just feel that those are the colors that would complement the color of my car the best, and I'd rather that then just keep them black. And believe me, I don't live around any "Porschephiles that would wince" or the like. I live around the type of people who will just see the
Porsche
crest on my car and assume it cost me $1,000,000. The type of area where cars like this get keyed out of envy if you don't pay attention. So yeah. Acid green actually was an option that the dealer gave me, the color of the calipers that will be on the 918
Spyder
, but I thought if I am not going with any theme or anything and not putting any other accents on my car green might just look odd.
Now as far as the color meteor grey, is there anyone who has an opinion such as "I think yellow calipers would go nicer with meteor grey" or "I think red calipers would go nicer with meteor grey?"
Thanks much!
In all seriousness though, I am one indecisive bastard and I know that I can't go wrong with either red or yellow and I've got 'till Monday to make a decision. I talked with the service guys at one dealership and they were all 100% on yellow, talked with the service guys at another dealership and they weren't as sure, but mentioned that red is more "safe" being that it matches with the taillights.
Ok...if you're determined to do it.
I think the red works better than yellow. With yellow, you'd have three colors going on when viewing the car from the rear/side. Red would be just a bit more classy looking with the grey.
The yellow side markers just simply detract from the car by attracting attention and focus of people looking at the car. IMHO, either red or yellow will create a color focus point and detract from the overall visual impression of the car. If I cared enough about other peoples' impressions, I would paint my red calipers a matte silver or metallic charcoal. There are just other things on which I want to spend money that are more important to me than a tuned visual impression.
Of course, others will say that they like a striking contrast. If I visually enhanced the part of the car I like the most, I'd paint her haunches a suntanned bronze.
But at the end of the day, it is YOUR car, so do what YOU like to look at.
I'm actually a big fan of black calipers. In my opinion, there's nothing attractive about the stuff inside the wheel, whether calipers or rotors or suspension parts, so emphasizing them with bright colors sure doesn't appeal to me....even a little.
That's great, a solution has been found. Budman will just swap with you for your highly desirable black calipers.
edit Ooops, just noticed he too has the black calipers which probably reinforced his perspective as well !
What did you decide?
I'm planning to re-do mine in the original two tone -- silver overall, with charcoal on the panel where the "
PORSCHE
" is. White letters, then clearcoat.
For a Meteor Gray, I'd suggest the same. But if you want something different, why not get the "
PORSCHE
" stencil in yellow or red letters (which can be found on ebay).
I think the yellow would look great on your car. My red
2016 Cayman
is getting yellow calipers this week. I've had many Corvettes and you hear the same things. Last thing I would worry about is some snobs opinion as everyone I know will love it as much as me. Do it !
I think yellow would make a nice accent against the gray bacground color. You might consider installing yellow seat belts, or painting the dashboard trim yellow, to carry this theme into the interior. Just don't overdo it. A little accent goes a long way.
