Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all. This is my first post. For 1 week now, I am getting an engine buzzing sound at low speeds which disappears as the car picks up speed. Not sure what it is? No warning lights are on. The car is booked in for a sort out next weekend but I am worried that the problem maybe major.....Can any of you chaps comment on a possible diagnosis on this problem please. I can tolerate the slight noise from my targa but not this! Many thanks.

POST 2Original post

Hello and welcome! Sorry to hear of the probs with the car. Any more news? Can you give any more detail about the noise- does it sound like something loose or resonating (for example a broken exhaust mounting) or something more sinister. Do you have the switchable sports exhaust on your car? It may be damaged baffles or the diverter flap.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Many thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I do not have a switchable exhaust although I am seriously thinking about it. Anyone up for a group buy in the Midlands area? The noise is a deep toned buzz and only around at low speeds. It seems to be emanating from the fan belt? I just hope it is not too serious. It will be going under the knife on Saturday. I will keep you chaps posted on the developments Its a lovely Targa and fully loaded (apart from PSE). My pride and joy after years of toil at medical school. Will be selling it soon. I want a wide body!

POST 5Original post

Hmmm. Difficult to say what it is without hearing it, it may just be the v belt which is not a big deal Fingers crossed! Years of toil at med school? You'll be in a 997 GT3 before you know it! (one of the docs on here had a 993 RS) What are you looking for next- a 996 C4S?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I will be looking for a fully loaded 997 C4s next year. Like all the 996ers, I have taken a big hit during this credit crunch. I am hoping the addition of a PSE will make my Targa a more attractive buy.....not necessarily boosting its value. Its a little embarassing at the moment when i pull into the car park with this annoying buzz!
