Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know there are several aftermarket sport shifters available for the Boxster/911 which I am assuming will work with the Cayman as well. Does anyone have a particular recommendation on which aftermarket sport shifter they think is best?
Just for everyone's info, my dealer has informed me that the Porsche part number for the Cayman S sport shifter is the same part number as the Boxter's.
Hi guys, I was told by my dealer that he could install the OEM short shifer after delivery for the same pre-delivery price. I have read, however, the factory shift throw is already shorter than the Boxter S.
It will be nice to see if we can actually measure the Cayman's shifter travel vs. the Boxster S. I know the Porsche literature and marketing materials say that the Cayman S has shorter throws than the Boxster S, but is it 1mm shorter, 1% shorter, or something significant and measurable? If the sport shifter part # is the same for the Cayman and the Boxster S that would seem to indicate that they get identical throws if the short shifter is applied. In which case shouldn't the short shifter be less expensive on the Cayman than on the Boxster since it is doing less? Seems like there is a lot of FUD around this and until cars come in and shifter throws can be measured or examined in some meaningful way we'll just have to wait and see.
If I decide to go with a sport shifter it won't be the Porsche one since it is so overpriced as compared to the aftermarket solutions. I was reading in Excellence that Cargraphic has a new sport shifter for the 997 that is supposed to be top notch, not sure if they have the same offering for the Boxster/Cayman at this point or not.
I'dalmost be willing to bet that the stock shifter in the Cayman isn't any different than the one in the Boxster S........or at least I haven't found any concrete evidence saying that it is better. I have seen Porsche and many articles claiming the shifter is 'improved'......butthey don't say whether it is improved over the
current
Boxster S, theprevious model, or any Porsche model for that matter. They just say 'improved' with shorter throws.
Looking at the few videos I have seen of the Cayman where you can actually see shifting being done......it sure looks like Boxster S length throws to me.......not any shorter. Hope I am wrong.
If I could have gotten the short shifter from the factory I would have paidMSRP........but I will not have it installed by a dealer after the fact for that price. 1) because I can get it cheaper and have a choice. 2) because I don't want some dealer tech on a busy day ripping apart my new Cayman to install a shifter. I will do it nice and easy on a weekend and make sure all is perfect........and learn about the car at the same time.
I have a B&M aftermarket sports shifter in my 911, installed by our local Porsche dealer. It's a bit 'notchy', but works just fine. IMO it's an essential mod, so I just optioned in from the factory on my Cayman order.
I was told by my dealer as well that they will install the Porsche Sport Shifter when they get the car for the option list price. The labor cost will be absorbed by the dealer??? I would think that the list price included the labor to install it during build?? Anyway, every car I have owned with stick, a short throw has been installed and always made a great improvement.
The actual option price for the Porsche Short Shifter is something like $750. You can purchase a Porsche Short Shifter from the dealer parts for about $475, or from Carlsen Porsche for $399. Install time is 1-2 hours, so it looks as if you can add a real Porsche Short Shifter for much less than the option price. This is what I am doing.
